I would have thought that the iLiad would be rather too expensive and delicate to be used by schoolchildren, wouldn't it? The little horrors don't treat their textbooks with any great care - I can imagine how long an iLiad would last!

Perhaps it has potential to be used in universities, but I think that schools are not a particularly valid market for it.

It has great potential for universities. I'm studying history, and *lot* of what we have to read is in the form of PDF journal articles. Plus a lot of original source material is now available electronically (scanned from dusty old tomes in obscure libraries), and can be read and annotated on the Iliad. (Librarians are a bit fussy about people scribbling in the margins of the original documents...)

HarryT's point about the fragility of e ink screens is a good one. There are a few school districts that give all their high school students (not sure what this is called in other countries, but we're talking about students aged 14-18) laptops, but laptops fold up and protect the screens. A form factor like the Newton, with a hard shell protective cover for the screen, might work. The iLiad, with its exposed screen and separate (optional) cover, would be a lot more exposed.
