Display Header Title in ePub as in LRF eBook ?

Hi Folks ...

I was just wondering if it would be possible to also Display the Book title by reading an eBook on the PRS 505 as it is done when reading a LRF Format eBook ?

Or is it just a not implemented feature of the firmware in the PRS-505 ?

Thx for any comment ...
Having so many books, sometimes you just don't remember anymore what you are reading That's the point ...

I could be wrong, but I don't think this has anything to do with either the firmware, or the particular format, but whether the particular file is set up to include/display the title in its header. Some .LRFs might be so set up, some might not. Some .ePubs may be so set up, some might not.

You might want to check the ePub forum to see if there are any tools for editing an ePub file so that it does this.

At least in Calibre, I haven't found a way to produce an ePub file with a header. I don't know if this is because of a limitation with the way ePub is handled by the PRS-505, or if it is a limitation of the ePub format.

The Problem is with Adobe Digital Edition.

The required CSS elements
oeb-page-head
oeb-page-foot

are currently not supported.

Thanks for the info, Bossman - good to know what exactly is going on; hopefully Adobe and Sony continue to improve Digital Editions on the 505.

Well, this is not really the problem. In fact, Epub is a flowing format, where no fixed pages are defined. if you would add the headers and footers, you would at the same time be forced to define fixed pages which is contrary to the spirit of the Epub format. So, not everything is Adobe's mistake

that's not entirely true ; it's just necessary to define a header / footer area on the screen which will display this info regardless of the reflowing text, which is quite possible, technically. so it's a question of adobe / sony implementing this in their viewer (also i think the idpf specs don't define header / footer yet, but i could be wrong about that).

I'm sorry, but no.

From the OPS spec:

Neither should be simply presented as if it were inline or block. Reading Systems, however, are free to present headers and footers either in special areas as usual for paper publications, or to make them available in another way. For example, a device with a small screen might instead pop them up on demand. For purposes of page layout, these display values are similar to block boxes with an absolute position (i.e. a position value of fixed or absolute). That is, they are removed from the normal flow and a new block box is created with its own flow. Margins, padding and other block characteristics are determined as if the element had position: fixed set.

An element assigned display: oeb-page-head or display: oeb-page-foot shall not be considered in effect while any preceding content remains presented. For example, when rendered to a screen with appropriate style settings, the myhead-classed div element below would become the page header as soon as nothing preceding the containing div is displayed:
Code:
<div>
   <div class="myhead" style="display: oeb-page-head">
      The OEB Publication Structure: Introduction
   </div>
   <h2>Introduction</h2>
   <p>...</p>
</div>
Such a header (or footer) remains in effect until another header (or footer) is in effect instead, or until no part of its parent element remains presented (such as when the div is no longer visible in the above example), whichever occurs first.
