e-books added to UK CPI (inflation basket)

From BBC News story today: e-books were one of the consumer goods added to the "basket" of goods tracked to compute inflation in the UK.

DVRs, hot chocolate, white rum, blueberries, and chacuterie were also added. Champagne, sink faucets, and something called a freeview box were dropped.

So, sit back sipping on rum-laced hot chocolate reading your e-book while your DVR records the TV. I'm not sure how to work in the processed meat & blueberries.

Not actually ebooks (the story is confusing), but ebook READERS (Kindles, etc).

A Freeview box is a digital terrestial TV decoder. Very popular during the switch-over from analogue to digital TV transmission, but now all TVs have digital receivers build-in, so the need for external decoders has essentially disappeared.

Unless you want to use a personal recorder with your Freeview-enabled TV. In that case, the recorder will have its own Freeview decoder built in.

Yes, indeed. Basically a box for plugging into an analogue TV receiver (whether it be a TV set, video recorder, or whatever) to allow it to receive digital TV transmissions.
