OpenInkpot v0.0 developer preview released

We are pleased to announce the first usable developer preview of OpenInkpot - ready for you developers to play around with! From our blog:

Warning! Do not try to install this firmware to V3ext (512mb) version! This may damage internal flash. We will soon release another firmware correcting the errors if you already tried to do it.

Quote:
Since this is a developer preview, please don't expect too much from the 0.0 version just yet. But we are pleased to say that it can boot on V3 hardware, and currently includes a bookshelf (Madshelf), bookreader (FBReader), and SSH server (dropbear - USB network connection even works occasionally!). However, we would advise that only developers try this release out, as it is not quite ready for end-users to try just yet.

Downloads are at: http://www.openinkpot.org/pub/releas...v3-0.0.tar.bz2
Please do feel free to leave comments. You can also visit us in our IRC channel - #openinkpot on OFTC.

Thanks!

This release is for Hanlin v3 / lBook V3. OpenInkpot is also actively working on Netronix EB-600 and Sony PRS-505 ports.

I know it's a little early, but do you plan to support Wifi?

As far as I know, there's no technical reason why OpenInkpot can't support wi-fi.

However! And this is a very big "however!".

No-one in the OI project has any book reader capable of supporting wi-fi, nor SDIO wi-fi cards. Why not donate an Iliad or a SDIO wifi card to the project?

(the product in the above Amazon link is just an example though)

Great work.

I wonder whether any owner of a Hanlin could upload a video showing this firmware.

Good effort but very slow to boot (the official firmware boots in 10 seconds more or less). And the library doesn't show anything that is in SD card so far so you can't do much as it is...

You can remove the card and insert it back after 3 seconds. Then just open the SD location in the Madshelf.
