Don't use AIM anymore if you care for your privacy
Found the following on this site:
AOL has some new "Terms of Service" for those who use their AOL Instant Messaging servers, and it's pretty crazy: Quote:

Yea, that's totally UFB. I'll bet it won't last. This reminds me of that whole privacy deal with Yahoo and the little "check box" page a few years ago... or the Google phone directory.

AIM, Orkut, Google Groups, GMail, Yahoo Groups... the list goes on. When you're using someone else's services, you're kidnapped by whatever policies they decide to levy. These are probably the worse offenders.
But... there's always the Gaim Encryption plugin, which I've been happily using for a year or two now. You could also always choose to use Jabber, and their gateway to the other IM services, if you wanted to wean yourself off of AIM directly. |
