Yes, it's certainly true that, generally speaking, tablets have 10W chargers, and readers 5W chargers. I can charge my Kindle from my iPad charger, but not vice versa.

I am not an electrical engineer, nor do I play one on TV, however, a device will only draw as much current as it needs, so the 2A nexus charger may charge things faster (or not) but it won't blow them up

My electronic cigarette batteries charge much faster with the nexus charger, my Sony 650 doesn't give a d@mn and putters along at it's own speed.
