Problem loading a mobipocket book
I'm having trouble loading a mobipocket ebook into Calibre. My other mobipocket books have all loaded with little or no trouble, but when I try to load this one I get the following message
"calibre, version 0.8.8 ERROR: Adding failed: The add books process seems to have hung. Try restarting calibre and adding the books in smaller increments, until you find the problem book." The book is some 40.5 mb in size (a collection of mystery novels/stories) and I can't exactly shrink it down but when I try to load it into Calibre it doesn't seem to want to load properly. Any ideas of how to resolve this problem would be appreciated. |

Disabling the MOBI metadata reading plugin. Then try adding. If it adds correctly you can reenable the MOBI metadata reading plugin.

A person yesterday had a similar problem and they worked around it by creating an empty book with all of the metadata/cover info then added the format directly to available formats window.

How does that work again? I mean how does loading an empty ebook help to load a regular ebook? I assume the creating part has to do with Sigil and Calibre somehow.

As User_none suggested your metadata reader plugin might have been crashing. I believe creating the empty book allows you to add the format to the book entry without involving the metadata reader plugin.

I'm with Walt's thinking.
Sneak it in the back door. |

But how do you create it in the 1st place? Do you just create an epub in Sigil like normal but with no text and then convert it to mobi, save it to disk, delete from Calibre and then reload the mobi format of the book? Then use that to enable you to load the actual book? I do appreciate the suggestions, but I'm not sure of the steps required to follow the suggestions.

Once you have an entry for the empty book. Go into the metadata editor (Edit metadata button on the tool bar). On the upper right hand side of the window there will be a white box with four buttons surrounding it. Click the Book icon with the plus sign in the upper right of the white box. This will allow you to add a file to the book entry.
