ADE suddenly stopped working?

I have ADE installed on a Windows 7 Professional machine, on which I have always previously been able to download EPUBs from either where I have bought them, or where I borrow from a library.

All of a sudden yesterday, when downloading a book, it just doesn't do anything - no error or crash - the book does not load.

The download (acsm) links are coming down in Firefox - but nothing happens in ADE where it would usually open the book.

Any ideas?

Did you try an uninstall/reinstall of ADE?

Yes, this was the first thing I tried. I have also tried (from some other advice) opening the acsm links directly with ADE from my downloads folder, but no joy.

If I go to download the book and ADE is not open, it fires up ready (so something happens, but then it does not load the book at all.

If its not the software as taming sugested I would suggest looking at sourceforge.net and seeing if you can come up with a different software package to do the same thing. If the sourceforge software doesn't work either I would be more inclined to think that it would be your PC hardware rather than the software. If this is actually the case I would go ask the folks from techsupportforum.com

It has previously worked on this (Windows 7 Pro) machine. It just suddenly stopped working one day. Nothing has changed.

I have another working machine so it's not a deal breaker, just annoying.

I have to use ADE as it is for downloading EPUB or PDF library books.

Try this: Close ADE. In your "My Digital Editions" folder there will be a "restore" folder, rename this to restore.bad (or something close - the point is that it should be restore).
Launch ADE, Close ADE.
Launch ADE, and then drag and drop the .acsm file on it.

(If this works, ADE was stuck trying to process a bad .acsm file, and we were not being good about the error reporting).
