Merlin's Granddaughter by Tony Butler is fun to read, it's a children's book. (multiformat from fictionwise)

I also liked the story from Mary Stewart, but they are written from Merlin's point of view, not Arthur's.

And finally, The Forever King by Molly Cochran and Warren Murphy. (which, I only now found out!, is part of a trilogy...)

King Arthur and His Knights (Illustrated) by Maude L. Radford is pretty good too.

Quote:
Twenty-one stories from the Arthurian legends specially selected and adapted for children and told in simple well-written prose. The stirring tales of these chivalrous knights awaken the reader’s admiration for courage and gentleness and high sense of honor essential in all ages.

I have several children with learning issues, nothing as difficult as autism, but when I finally find the key to connect them to literature and reading, it truly is a day to celebrate. So, congratulations!

The first part of The Once and Future King, The Sword in the Stone, is especially suited for children.
It's better to get it as a separate book since the version in the tetralogy leaves out some of my favorite scenes like Merlin's duel with Madame Mim.
