well easy enough indeed, so it means we can avoid triggering a factory reset in case of malformed db ?!

(edit) It seems I did so, but i don't remember the steps exactly, I think it was:

deleted db then eject./rebooted
-> nothing had changed on the device

connected calibre, which found nothing on device
eject./reboot

device wanted me to sign-in, I did...

connected calibre again, which did find the books

now the database is healthy, according to kobo-utilities

(RE-EDIT)

It didn't work finally...
