Why "move" - it's not an "either/or" thing. I read e-books; I also read paper books. There's room in the world for both .

Exactly, although the transition is coming for me. The Reader is my travel companion for airplane, restaurant (when dining solo on the road) and hotel reading. At home, I'm more likely to grab a book from the shelf for a little pleasure reading. However - I am already loathe to buy more paper books simply because they will not be on the Reader, and I will miss them when traveling. This sentiment becomes more and more difficult to reconcile with the fact that Borders sells Readers but not Ebooks - effectively it's the henhouse selling foxes.

I'd love to see Borders either actively converting and selling ebooks, or at least contributing inventory to Sony's CONNECT store. Anything to increase the diversity of available titles...

Granted, but look at the larger picture - if ebooks take off to the point of affecting print book sales (as digital cameras have greatly affected film and film camera sales), the bookstores had better re-invent themselves -- and should be drawing up those plans now while waiting for the public's acceptance to require their execution.
In the photography world, it is a happy quirk that all of the film makers are also camera makers - because anyone who made film only would be going quite out of business if they did not change somehow. |

Not all. One example is Agfa, which had to sell off its film business to survive (and that spin-off bankrupted in a year).
