'Riot Murder' -actor turned undercover cop investigates murder in midst of riots

A murderer is on the loose in the middle of the riots… The police have only days before the riots end and their suspects disappear.

Myles Morgan is a failed actor who’s turned out to be a successful, if unconventional, undercover cop in the Met’s specialist SCD10 department.

Myles’s acting career was a disaster. He’d always dreamt of becoming the next Marlon Brando. And it was a dream he couldn’t let go, until he finally gave in and got a ‘proper’ job as a police officer. Temperamentally unsuited to the job, he almost quit. But then he was spotted by SCD10 and became an undercover cop, assigned to the most difficult, dangerous cases.

Yet Myles is still an actor at heart. Every operation is a leading role. He immerses himself in it. Sometimes, however, he forgets he’s a law enforcement officer. He gets sucked into situations other officers would shy away from. His total absorption in his work will one day lead to his downfall. But, until then, he’ll enjoy this freewheeling ride.

Myles Morgan is about to embark on one of his most hazardous cases.
When riots flare up in London again, an undercover cop is found murdered in a burning car.

The police’s only lead is the officer’s last report to his handler. He was close to discovering the identity of one of the organisers of the riots.

Because of the pressure he’s under to get results, the chief superintendent goes against SCD10 guidelines and orders another undercover officer into the fray. That officer is Myles Morgan.

Myles must throw himself into the London riots, mix with the unpredictable participants from London’s ganglands, stretch the rule of law and risk blowing his own cover with unknowable consequences. All this while dating an actress who's living the dream he left behind; and seeing a shrink who thinks he’s a compulsive liar.

‘Riot Murder’ is a 20,000 word (90 pages) novella inspired by true events. It’s the first in a series of Myles Morgan Undercover mysteries.
