A little confusing.
That's up to the audiobook publisher (or self pub author) AFAIK. They certainly don't offer WS4V on every title at Audible and the price can go up and down quite a bit.

I read through the WfV instructions for authors (out of curiosity) and whether they can make work for Whispersync depends on whether the audio narration was done word for word. If any changes are made to the uploaded text or audio files, like fixing formatting errors, the Whispersync feature may not work until they can be synced again. It also looks like, for example, using foreign characters like Greek or Cyrillic mean the audio and text cannot be synced for WfV.

Edited - I "bought" the free version of 1632, and even though the Audible book is said to be available for $2.99 through WfV, it does not show up at that price on Audible.com. When I looked at my WfV matches on the Amazon.com website it also does not load in the list. Never had that problem before.

That's because the Kindle version that's set up for WfV is not the free first edition, but the second edition, which currently costs $6.83.

The Wandering Earth: Classic Science Fiction Collection, by Liu Cixin, is free today at Amazon (at least when buying from Spain):

http://www.amazon.com/The-Wandering-...dp/B00CXUKNA2/

(Not to be confused with the novella of the same title that is sold separately (not free), but is included in the collection)

I can't recommend this collection highly enough. Excellent hard SF with a Golden Age feel. In case you're interested, these are my reviews of some of the stories collected in the book:

Taking Care of God: http://sentidodelamaravilla.blogspot...in-by-liu.html

Nice find. It is indeed free on US Amazon site. Downloading and hope to get reading a few of the stories between the novels I'm currently on.

I've not read this series, but I know there are some fans here so I thought I'd point out that Shattered: The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book Seven by Kevin Hearne has had it's pre-order (June 17th) price drop from $10.99 ($12.99 list) to $5.99 at Amazon US

A few price drops at Amazon US (didn't check elsewhere)...

Hellhole by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson - $2.99
Quote:
Only the most desperate colonists dare to make a new home on Hellhole. Reeling from a recent asteroid impact, tortured with horrific storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and churning volcanic eruptions, the planet is a dumping ground for undesirables, misfits, and charlatans…but also a haven for dreamers and independent pioneers.

Against all odds, an exiled general named Adolphus has turned Hellhole into a place of real opportunity for the desperate colonists who call the planet their home. While the colonists are hard at work developing the planet, General Adolphus secretly builds alliances with the leaders of the other Deep Zone worlds, forming a clandestine coalition against the tyrannical, fossilized government responsible for their exile.

What no one knows is this: the planet Hellhole, though damaged and volatile, hides an amazing secret. Deep beneath its surface lies the remnants of an obliterated alien civilization and the buried memories of its unrecorded past that, when unearthed, could tear the galaxy apart.

At the publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management software (DRM) applied.

Hellhole: Awakening by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson - $2.99
Quote:
In this exhiliarting sequel to Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Hellhole, the stakes on planet Hallholme have been raised to new heights.
After declaring his independence from the corrupt Constellation, rebel General Adolphus knows the crackdown is coming. Now he needs to pull together the struggling Hellhole colony, the ever-expanding shadow-Xayan settlement, and his connections with the other Deep Zone worlds. Even then, he doubts his desperate measures will be enough.

Diadem Michella Duchenet has collected a huge space fleet led by Commodore Escobar Hallholme, son of the hero who originally defeated Adolphus. They expect resistance from the General's rebels, but who could possibly stand up to such a mighty fleet?

Adolphus knows he’s running out of time, but he still has some hope—the shadow-Xayans have banded together to defend their sacred planet with "telemancy," but can they discover new powers to protect all the stored alien lives on the already devastated world? And when all hope seems lost, the awakened Xayans reveal information hidden even from their own followers—the existence of a bigger threat that makes even the Constellation fleet seem insignificant.

Disaster has come for General Adolphus and Hellhole…and this time there is no escape.

At the publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management software (DRM) applied.
book three in the trilogy is due out in August

The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind - $2.99
Quote:
Hannis Arc, working on the tapestry of lines linking constellations of elements that constituted the language of Creation recorded on the ancient Cerulean scroll spread out among the clutter on his desk, was not surprised to see the seven etherial forms billow into the room like acrid smoke driven on a breath of bitter breeze. Like an otherworldly collection of spectral shapes seemingly carried on random eddies of air, they wandered in a loose clutch among the still and silent mounted bears and beasts rising up on their stands, the small forest of stone pedestals holding massive books of recorded prophecy, and the evenly spaced display cases of oddities, their glass reflecting the firelight from the massive hearth at the side of the room.

Since the seven rarely used doors, the shutters on the windows down on the ground level several stories below stood open as a fearless show of invitation. Though they frequently chose to use windows, they didn’t actually need the windows any more than they needed the doors. They could seep through any opening, any crack, like vapor rising in the early morning from the stretches of stagnant water that lay in dark swaths through the peat barrens.

The open shutters were meant to be a declaration for all to see, including the seven, that Hannis Arc feared nothing.

#1 New York Times-bestselling author Terry Goodkind returns to the lives of Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell—in a compelling tale of a new and sinister threat to their world.

At the publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management software (DRM) applied.

The Whitefire Crossing by Courtney Schafer is on sale for $1.99 at Amazon US today.

http://www.amazon.com/Whitefire-Cros...dp/B006QNNIBS/

I picked it up on a previous sale, read it, and really enjoyed it.

Quote:
Dev is a smuggler with the perfect cover. He's in high demand as a guide for the caravans that carry legitimate goods from the city of Ninavel into the country of Alathia. The route through the Whitefire Mountains is treacherous, and Dev is one of the few climbers who knows how to cross them safely. With his skill and connections, it's easy enough to slip contraband charms from Ninavel - where any magic is fair game, no matter how dark - into Alathia, where most magic is outlawed.

But smuggling a few charms is one thing; smuggling a person through the warded Alathian border is near suicidal. Having made a promise to a dying friend, Dev is forced to take on a singularly dangerous cargo: Kiran. A young apprentice on the run from one of the most powerful mages in Ninavel, Kiran is desperate enough to pay a fortune to sneak into a country where discovery means certain execution - and he'll do whatever it takes to prevent Dev from finding out the terrible truth behind his getaway.

Yet the young mage is not the only one harboring a deadly secret. Caught up in a web of subterfuge and dark magic, Dev and Kiran must find a way to trust each other - or face not only their own destruction, but that of the entire city of Ninavel.
