Linux + PRS500

Hello,

I just got the PRS-500 but can't seem to be able to get it to connected to my desktop. The PRS-500 shows USB is connected and I can see it in my hardware information but libprs500 doesn't seem to detect a reader attached.

Is there some driver/package that I may be missing? I am using Ubuntu 7.04 with everything updated. libprs500 was installed successfully and I can manage books and such but it just won't see the darned thing. If any more info is needed let me know I will be happy to provide

*i'm going to take it to work tomorrow to see if it works on my windows PC but at first glance it doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it in particular. I might try to dig up my old windows 98 cd and try to install it inside a virtual machine to see if that might work as well but obviously the best thing would be to get it working natively. Thanks in advance for any help!

Did you try using the command line first (prs500 info) to see if there're any messages?

Yes, from the command line when i use the 'info' parameter it reports that it doesn't see a reader attached.

Getting this in stdout

rcho@rcho-desktop:~$ sudo libprs500

Thanks for the quick responses...

cat /etc/udev/rules.d/95-libprs500.rules
# Sony Reader PRS-500
BUS=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="029b", SYSFS{idVendor}=="054c", MODE="660", GROUP="plugdev"
BUS=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="029b", SYSFS{idVendor}=="054c", MODE="660", GROUP="usb"

is the problem that there is no "usb" group?

Delete the last line from that file and run
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/udev restart
You should then be able to connect to the reader as a normal user.
