Glo Scratches with the Glo

Hi there,
just noticed a 1mm scratch on the screen/outer layer.
In daylight theres a small shadow on the e-ink, whilst out of sunlight or with the light on it's not really noticeable, especially when reading, so it's not too bad.
If, however, more scratches occur, does anyone have any homemade remedies? Can we rub something into it? Can't imagine that would work (as they'll still be a break in the uniform layer) and there's the risk or damaging the screen around the scratch but you never know.

No don't rub anything into, it will damage it further as it's basically several layers of plastic, I'm not sure how it's scratched as E-Ink screens by nature are pretty robust. possibly the upper layer is structurly weak in your unit so perhaps you can do is return it for a exchange .

If there is a remedy, it would be the first screen to have such a one.

Removing scratches only worked with old mobile phones, which had a completely non-functional transparent plastic casing in front of the actual screen. There you could simply polish the scratches out (or replace that part of the plastic case for little money).

Any other computer screens, including the Kindle, the layer in front of the display is glued to the display itself, plus it has function of some kind (anti-reflective surface, or in case of the PW, light conductors - I can only assume the Glo is similar in that respect). If you tried to polish that it would cause more damage rather than fixing anything.

I can't imagine the store would exchange it.
I don't think anyone would know the threshold for a defective "easily scratched" screen...

From early reports on the Nook Glow, it appears that scratches and dents in the glow light conduction layer is the Achilles heel of all of these new models. I've been waiting to see if either Kobo or Kindle did something different from the Nook and put a hard glass layer over light conduction layer, but apparently Kobo did not. You just have to be really careful not to scratch or dent the soft plastic, or the result will be very visible.

One remedy that does help scratched plastic screens is to rub a little vaseline over the scratch. It seems to have exactly the right optical properties to fill a scratch in plastic, although it doesn't last forever. I'm not sure I'd try that on a layered plastic screen though in case the scratch cuts though the layers and allows the vaseline to seep into the boundary.

Rainio, may I ask how the scratch occurred? Did it happen by some accident or was it there already when you bought the Glo? (In the case of the latter, I'd says it's exchangable...)

No idea how it happened, though as it's only really noticeable in bright external light it may have happened a few days ago.
It definitely is a scratch as I can feel a slight indentation (unlike the nook glowlight problems where it sounds as though the top layer was intact and the defects were occuring with minimal force).
