The hundreds of free public domain works have saved me a lot of money. Prior to my discovery of PG and MR library and calibre, I was actually buying the classics in print book format little by little.

I've saved on dusting book shelves. I've also turned into a hoarder. I have too many eBooks in my TBR list. Seems I can't refuse an offer from Amazon.

Dusting? The word rings a bell, but I can't quite bring to mind what it means... Does it have any connection with other mysterious words like "ironing"?

I don't have any numbers, but here's some factors:
1. Decreased costs in fuel due to decreased trips to book stores. 2. Increased costs in ereaders since I love to read and buy tech. 3. Increased costs in book buying because I now read a lot more. 4. Decreased costs in movies and other forms of entertainment (see #3). Actual numbers, who knows? But my guess is I've spent more over the last four years versus any other previous four year period. |

An archaic concept, quite common before eBooks, like making coffee before Nespresso, or vacuuming before robots.

I think I have spent far more on book readers than I have spent on books .

I keep a spreadsheet. I have added up costs spent on devices and on books, then divided it by number of books I've read. The freebies balance out the cost of the books I pay for. The cost per read, adding up all costs divided by books read, is at about $9 right now, but I have a huge backlog of unread books and once I get through that, I expect the number to drop.

Additionally, since I got my 10'' tablet, I've been getting into graphic novels/comics (bought both with the Kindle app and the Comixology app) in eFormat. I think you can say that I have bought more than I would have but (in most cases) paid less for it. Truthfully, it has probably cost me money but I'm not compaining...too much. I am going to resolve to work my way through my to-read pile a bit before buying anything else for awhile. I may read some free E.R. Burroughs. |

I haven't saved anything. After I got a eReader I went crazy buying books. Although I am doing better this year than the previous two years but I spent a couple thousands on books in the last 3 years.

I don't care about the cost, but the amount of space I have saved is HUGE. For that it is worth it's weight in gold!

I have saved in that ebooks cost me less than Hard and paperback books, in most cases. I have also saved because there are so many free books available. But, I have always been a readaholic and I still purchase lots of books. As my wife says, at least I do not smoke or drink.

Since I've rebought as ebooks more than half of the paper books I owned I can't say I've saved money. I've also bought a bunch of books, granted at a lower price than a typical MM paperback, that I wouldn't have bought at all in paper. Overall I've been spending more. Quite a lot more.

I've read a ton of freebies, classics and cheap ebooks, so I'm sure my K3 has far more than paid for itself, my original $399 K1, maybe not.
