latest round of Android malware makes it seem like the problem isn't going to go away

Careful out there folks.

Quote:
The malware was discovered by Lookout, a mobile security company. They found just under 30 infected applications across six separate developer accounts. Several of the infected applications were existing third-party programs that the attacker copied and then repackaged with the malware.

The malware-bearing programs spanned a diverse range of functions, including a scientific calculator, a solitaire game, and a photo enhancement tool. Malicious developer Magic Photo Studio had the most colorful assortment of infected apps, including a soundboard called Sex Sound and a photo gallery program called Beauty Breasts.

The infected applications appear to have been widely downloaded prior to being shut down by Google.
Quote:
This latest round of Android malware makes it seem like the problem isn't going to go away. Although Google responded to the threat very quickly after it was detected, the number of users who downloaded the applications is still troubling. Armed with a remote kill switch and full control over the Android Market, Google can address threats as they arise, but can't really provide a proactive safety net.

Lookout is a free security app, and it checks every download before installation. Like any antivirus, it can't protect against unknown threats, but it's emcouraging that they're the ones who found this.

BTW, it also performs a weekly scan of everything on the device, so if something was downloaded before it was discovered, it'll catch it then.

Scans everything

and ohh Rock, keep an eye on Steve-o's perfect world, it seems the people who created the malware Mac Defender that attacked Mac's was their "let's test the waters" and a couple more of malware has been popping up etc.

so don't be led like a sheep by your Shepard Steve o into thinking the Apple world is unattackable. '

Just looking out for you kiddo

Funny, I didn't here Rock complaining about the little Apple malware problem... Oh, wait, it didn't exist! Deny it! At least until you release a new malware scanner... Someone that thinks their favorite OS is immune from internet attacks is going to be seriously inconvenienced some day.
