I like Gaiman's work very much but suggest you don't expect American Gods to be anything like Stardust, it is quite different to his other work. Well, to be honest, I'd probably say that about any of this books. Each one has, to me, been a surprise. I loved Stardust, and Neverwhere and adored The Graveyard Book, but American Gods I found ... challenging, but better the second time through.

Looks like it will be Hitchiker's at this point. Loved that book and have never got around to reading the rest of the series.
Possibly won't read again in Jan so I'll sit this one out. But hope everyone enjoys the book. Regards Caleb |

I guess I've bought HGTTG in enough formats that one more won't hurt. I guess I don't have the TV show or any of the movies, but I've bought the books in various forms (paperback, hardcover, compilations) over the years and have the radio series, too. Maybe I'll finally get around to making a cover for my Reader. I'm still not sure just how to make the letters "friendly", though.....

One of the Overdrive libraries I have a card to has it in illustrated form. Maybe I'll read that version this time.

I voted for The Eyre Affair but I guess Hitchhiker's is a good book for me to start in with the book club, it going to be fun.

This is excellent timing. I was gifted a Kindle about a week before Christmas, and when I found out Amazon has the whole 5-book HHGG "trilogy" for $10, I figured I'd buy it and read it again.
Then I found this thread! Looking forward to sharing my thoughts and seeing everyone else's later this month. |
