Library Ebooks

Hi All!

I was just curious on how libraries get their ebooks.

Do they buy all their copies or do they get some by donation, or at discount prices?

I was just wondering because a book I got on the waiting list for had 8 copies and when I checked my status a few days later while I was on the site they had 16 copies.

Most books on the site have 1 or 2 copies per book.

They do business with a specialist ebook provider. Usually overdrive.com in the US, onleihe.net or ciando.com in Europe. There are probably others.

Some time ago, I read about a lawsuit where a library had been with Overdrive and wanted to change to a different service, and was suing to be able to keep access to the books they had, on the grounds that they had purchased those books from Overdrive - does anyone know what I'm talking about, and what (if anything) was decided?
