YoCan Reader languages
YoCan Reader languages:
As intital published, I made "my special edition" by changing the Chinese words in the menu system. Such work start with what you intend to change, before coding can begin. A sample from systemConfig_yw.ini - Quote:
You will find English, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italy, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish There should be more, of course. There are other menus that need editing, and these will be added. Note: Lack info from the Duokan-Team of what they might support this. I hope they will, but we may go ahead with our own editions. Have attached spreadsheets, Excel,Gnumerics, as well as .html Last edited by FethryDuck; 11-18-2010 at 01:02 AM. |

About language translation:
Example: I hate Microsoft. Why ? If you buy a computer in Norway, you will encounter trouble should you prefer English as "computer" language. Their translation sucks, and may cause a lot of confusion. English is the standard language in aviation. The language goes with the territory, but not everyone agrees. But when they have to make up their own words for something already establish in the field, it may become unfriendly. We may do the same mistakes, as a lot of words are impossible to translate. No good substitute exist. "Default" cause me a lot of trouble. In some context, it would be "this", in another "that". Many foreign words has been accepted. People use the word "software" in Norwegian. In Sweden they translated it and say "mjukvare" . They tried something similar in Norway, but it failed. So, in the supplied .zip files, you have to do the translation. And if looking at the word isolated, the result may not be any good. So, you will have to be part in this: do the translation, run it and check that it feels right. You may look at what your computer is using, as that is probably what people have become accustomed with. You may have a look at the Norwegian translation here: Spoiler:
The site lack any way to present nice tables, so this looks confusing. Unzip the archive and you will see a more understandable table. Show a couple of entries: Code:
English | Norwegian | Notes Copyright | Copyright | innført Default Font Size | Default Font Size | innført Date&Time | Dato og Tid | Dato og Klokke Example - Copyright is used internationally, and it would cause confusion to translate it. Under notes, I have added the word "innført" - (commonly used). I believe "Font" is a standard used word in the printing busieness, it is so widespread that it would be accepted. Size would be translated. How would it appear if used with the word font ? Maybe both shoult be translated to "skrift størrelse" ? "Dato og Tid" is of course commonly used, but it may feel more natural to use "Dato og klokke" if the context is adjusting or under settings. This may be a good example of possible things you only discover after testing it on the device. It may take several revisions before you find a good translation for the Kindle. Post your translations and suggestions, and we will try to make the files. Attached files: Last edited by FethryDuck; 11-18-2010 at 06:06 PM. |
