Unhappy Charging problems

I purchased a Sony PRS - 600 reader during a recent visit to the United States. I completed an initial charge using the USB cable to my son's computer and then ran the callibration. I turned the reader off to return to the hotel but have since not been able to turn the reader on again. I phoned the Sony help desk for assistance and was told that it appears to have lost all battery power, to do a full reset and re-power. I attempted this on my return to Australia but to no avail. The reader appears to be dead - I can not turn the reader on, the reader is not recognised by the computer when attempting to re-charge and no charge light shows on the reader. What am I doing wrong and is there a quick fix? Thank you...

Get yourself a Sony PSP charger and give it a good charge and then see if it starts working, usb charging is not reliable , the thing with eink reader is even with the battery removed you will still have an image on the screen so some people think it has locked up when the battery is just flat.

Also Sony ereaders have usb problems even when they are working correctly, there are guides on this site to getting the ereader to work with your computer.

Yeah, my 600 locked up the day after i bought it, it was fully charged, I tried all the ways to reset it, but nothing worked, so i took the back off and unplugged the battery, and it`s worked fine since.

It`s easy to get to the battery on the 600 , you only have to remove 2 screws and then slide off the back, and then just unplug the battery, the only problem is the screws are tiny and if you dont have the right screwdriver and make a mess of them your guarantee is gone.

Maybe I'll try that method as well. I have ordered a PSP charger as well so fingers crodded all will now be right.

Try this (in order):

1. Push the reset button
2. Switch the power on
3. Quickly plug the reader into a USB port
4. Browse to the database/cache directory
5. Delete the file named media.xml
6. Unmount (Safely Remove Hardware on Windows)
7. Unplug USB cable

Device should be back to normal
