Who's going to be the first to upgrade his Reader?
Thanks to Nat & co, we know the firmware upgrade is on its way today... but it's not available yet.
So who is going to be the first lucky person to report back to us with the first hands-on comments? Hint: Keep an eye on this link which will update as soon as upgrade is available. |

sony and mac ?
there is a question on the french forum about the compatibility with mac ; he says he can use his sony quite well currently using "Synk" to synchronise the internal memory + memory stick, but would like to know if the update will be possible via mac, and whether he will still be able to sync on a mac afterwards. anybody else using sony and mac ? let us know how the update goes...

All we know from 500 users is do not use VMWare or Paralells to do any sort of upgrade that goes via USB. Good chance of bricking the reader. The only real way to upgrade is to use a real Windows system.

I'm pretty sure the updater executable will be Windows-only (like the one for PRS-500 was). However, it should be possible to extract the filesystem images (if the updater is still an SFK ZIP archive) and flash them using a custom script for Universal Flasher.

But you'd think they'd have the current software listed regardless.

I don't know if it did inform or not. I had installed the Borders version which was a later version number then either. So it would not have informed of an upgrade.
Anyway, let's just wait and see what happens. Teleread says the link is http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...l=PRS505&LOC=3 |

The problem is that an emulated Windows environment might not always have USB port access and that is where things screw up in time critical USB access.
