Awesome. Although many are way too public and open for me to feel comfortable reading there.

1) Recliner or other comfy chair. 2) A light source 3) Kids quiet or in another room 4) Fabreze dispenser for when the dog passes gas (He's quiet*, and keeps my feet warm sans slippers, so other than his emissions he's welcome) *He has calmed down as he's aged. When he was younger, he used to jump up and tear around the room whenever he farted. Then he'd stare at everyone in the room as if to say: "Who did that to me?!?". These days he just gives a heavy sigh: "Oh Lord, it happened again!" |

Bookcases on all the walls (aside from where the door, a window and a fireplace were), a chair in front of the fireplace and a window seat for sunny days would be good.

I read like I'm being hunted - small area or corner, back to the wall facing the door so no one can sneak up on me when I'm focused on a book. Most of those places would not work for me except #4 - the little reading nook.

I'm not picky. Either the Biltmore House or Hearst Castle Libraries would suit me just fine.

My favourite reading room is a solitary nook on a lake. It is admittedly uncomfortable on rainy days, but I've been known to happily read in such places in -20 C weather.

Two walls worth of bookcases, 8ft high, a sofa bed ( ) next to one window, three small bookcases and a stereo system under the other window. Medium plush carpet. Concrete walls for noise reduction. If I had the wall space I'd add a mini-fridge but I needed the space for another small bookcase for the LPs. (You never have enough shelf space.)

Those look awesome.
But like some people already stated, way too much open space for me. |

I would like to own nearly every book ever printed. I would need a large automated warehouse. (Maybe Amazon could give me one.) I wouldn't care much about the furnishing or layout of the reading room. Climate control + light + comfy chair = plenty fine.
