Talking drained Battery won't begin charging

I got my NST at the 'Black Fri' sale 2 months ago.
I copy/paste news items of interest into my word processor
and save/print them to a PDF file, then SideLoad to my Nook.

After the Xmas holiday, I had other priorities and left it in a well padded
zipper organizer 'asleep' (not OFF)... well, the battery ran down.

I was unable to get it to take a charge at all...
There was enough juice left to let me know the battery was 0%
and then it would revert to the "your nook is starting up..." screen.
a few Googles suggested that I disconnect the battery as a "jolt"
to the system to let it then begin charging the drained battery...

I found this 5min video that shows how to remove the PWR-button
and a (tiny) Torx-5 screw to get the back cover off.

I would add that you should place a PermMarker-DOT on the
small power connector before you pull it out... so that you can
get it back in properly oriented... That was my one difficulty.

While the battery/back-panel was removed, I plugged-in my
usb-pwr cable to the nook... it glowed-Green (not reddish-amber)
but would not start up...

I replaced the battery and back panel...
plugged it back in and it began charging...

After a 3-4 hour charge, it was 100%...

Running again, seems OK.

I hope this helps.

You're brave taking apart a two-month-old Nook. I would've taken it to a B&N store somewhere and let them mess with it. If it was out of warranty, that would be a different story...

Kevin: a) Great avatar-kitty. (s)he is a beauty...

b) your suggestion of getting BN to determine the problem is noted, but
I was visiting friends when I bought the NookST.
that is 500mi away... (I live some 150mi to the nearest BN).

c) although a BN-store "support" person would be 'responsible' to fix
the problem... I do not automatically grant them some better ability.

I spend more money at Craftsman/Harbor Freight than I do for
Walmart.com/books or BN or AZM or HalfPriceBooks (hpb.com)...
I tell folks that I am building bookshelves to store my books on
how to use a variety of power-tools that I need to learn how to
build the shelves for the books and the tools/bits/blades...

back in the days of Dial-Up modems and DOS, there was a popular
"modem program" called CrossTalk that let your PC be a terminal into
the BBS or host-PC. CrossTalk was the $$-licensed-program and a Freeware clone
was called Mirror-II, the splash-screen contained a random phrase, one
of which was: "Beware of the Programmer that carries a Screwdriver"

I rescue him and his little deaf sister when they were about five weeks old. He grew to be 18 pounds, which is quite something when I wake up in the morning with him laying on my chest, nose to nose, purring so loud he wakes me up. Wife got too close to me in bed one night and got bit. He was banned from the bedroom after that. He lived to be 14 years old.

I figure I know more than most B&N salespeople also, but I assumed they would just give you a new one. I've got a few B&N stores around here, but don't go to any of them. Got a Harbor Freight not too far away and a HF gift card for Christmas.

I can't remember the name of the program I used to connect to my friend's BBS. I think it was just plain old XModem. I like your quote! I'm a computer programming teacher now and I like to write funny sayings on the board. I'll be using that one!
