Borders e-reader linux
The new e-reader software from Borders will not run under Wine in Ubuntu Linux. Anyone know how to do that?

Alternately, I wonder if there will be a Linux version as for Kobo.

Borders vs. Kobo software
I have the Kobo software for linux running. But the Borders e-reader software must be different or at least I assume that it is. Do we know whether or not it is different?

It uses the Borders store, has borders prices, purchase methods, etc, and of course it uses the BORDERS brand. Other than that the application is very much the same.

Problem solved
Borders reader software installs with Wine under Linux. But Wine needs vcrun2008 from Wine Tricks.

I can now log into Borders reader with the same password and screen name as used at KOBO.

I notice with the Kobo for Linux app in your .config/Kobo there is Kobo Desktop Edition.conf which specifies urls for the kobo bookstore. In theory if one were able to acquire the URLs for Borders (I tried to find through the Borders app in XP) one could adapt the Kobo app to connect to Borders.

Geeze I feel sad replying to my own post.

I just tried changing the relevant URLs but it appears that the .conf gets re-written everytime the Kobo desktop app runs, so no changes to the .conf will have any effect on the program.

Be nice (especially for all of us Linux users) to have a Linux app for Borders and A&R fully supported. The Kobo desktop app is proof it can be done, so a few little changes and we're there.

Interesting. I would have thought that there would be a local machines registry section. But, I guess the Kobo software is not installing for All-Users.
