page-map.xml
Ive seen this in many epubs these days and I was wondering what it is for and how do they use it? It indicates all the page's names and href location.

It's a non-standard extension of Adobe (and only used by Adobe-based readers). It's purpose is to map the ebook content to the pages of a paper edition, so text references are consistent regardless of screen size, font face, etc.

It would change page numbers, which could break reading progress and bookmarks, depending on whether or not those features rely on page number in your reader.

ok would you simply just write it into the OCF than, but wouldnt it indicate as unused? I checked and bookmarks all work and page numbering is solid.

For a new book yes, you can remove it, and all references to it. As frostschutz notes, it could affect other reader features if the book is "in use".

so what would be the best way to identify it in the OCF?? They are usually in the spine after ncx which indicates as bad.
