1) dmesg -c > tempfile -> rename tempfile to date/time titled document. (The '-c' clears the message buffer after outputting it.) I.E: press button before desired action dump press button after desired action The second document (later date/timestamp) will have only the messages *after* the first document. That is: You could (later) cat the two together if you wanted both in one document file. I did it that way because the most common use case is to capture only the things before/after a specific **something**. |

Just to summarise.. we have 3 inactive states:
1. Screen Saver (short press) -- able to resume immediately 2. Blank Screen (long press) -- able to resume immediately 3. Truly off (what is achieved here by issuing the 'halt' command) -- able to resume only by going through the restart process Other than the screen saver's presence/absence, is there any other difference between states 1 and 2? |

Probably 2 goes to suspend directly (t2, for those familiar with powerd).
(Haven't checked, so you're welcome to contradict me ). |

There is also a "lightfix" patch available: https://github.com/ClusterM/kindle-lightfix
Light switches off sometime after setting brightness to lowest level.. Is this "mobileread certified"? :-) |

That one makes very in-efficient use of cron, I suggest that you try the front-light KUAL button. You can find a discussion here on controlling the frontlight of the paperwhite. Last edited by knc1; 07-26-2013 at 08:55 AM. |

Oops.. Sorry..
Forgot about the "FrontLight" Kual button/app.. which i've already installed.. As you say, that does do a more efficient and comprehensive job of controlling the front light.. Not able to properly keep track of all patches/hacks/apps/kual buttons installed.. :-) |
