Hopefully the publisher has a voice of reason somewhere in their life that might point out the wrongness of not honoring original promises. They seem blind to it, themselves.

It's not the best they can offer, it's the best they care to offer. I guess they figure they will be fine without their previous customers. Nothing really surprises me anymore, but this blatant disregard of us really does. I'll stop whining now.

I'm beginning to smell a rather large rat here. From the same article on teleread (http://www.teleread.com/ebooks/delph...rom-the-owner/) :
Quote:
This smacks of a company that began with a lofty promise (free lifetime updates once you purchase a book) and perhaps a much too low initial pricing of the volumes - now trying to force customers to re-buy previously purchased volumes - to generate more income for them. I mean really, they miraculously were able to recover the book files to sell them again, the web page information, ... but not the customer accounts? Rather too convenient for my taste. Too conveniently selective .... |

I've purchased a few Delphi Classics titles through Amazon in the past. Delphi's website used to say that they plan on making free updates available for Amazon customers when they can work out the technical details. Why not? Other publishers are able to upload updated files to Amazon, and they show up in the Cloud as "update available".
More troubling, I don't see that announcement anymore. |

See the above, and read the comments for the latest discussion. The publisher is brazenly unapologetic about going against his word. |

Does anyone have available their earlier quote about indefinite updates?
It would be nice to have both quotes side-by-side. Don |

If they were sold with the specific promise of indefinite upgrades, then this looks like a clear case of breach of contract.

I would still like to see that specific promise, along with their new promise. Then someone could send an email, along with these two quotes. That might make his pot boil. Don |

This is Internet Archive's record of their update page as of October 2012.
Note the sentence "So, if we update a title you've already purchased from us, you can click on its link in the My Account section and download the most recent version... absolutely free!" |

That certainly seems clear enough. No mention of any time limits there!

That seems absolutely clear: Whenever they update a book AND if you bought it from them, then you will have that most current edition available for download to your account. Thank you for the link. Don |

I am very glad I never bought anything from them. And now since they don't have my details I'll not have to go and unsubscribe from their mailing list.
