Calibre does not recognize my Kindle HD as a device does anybody know what i need to do??

In this order:
  1. Try a different USB cable.
  2. Try a different USB port.
  3. Restart calibre.
  4. Reboot your tablet.
  5. Restart your computer.

If this doesn't help then you have a serious issue.

1. What operating system are you using?

2. Is the Fire recognised by the operating system? Ie can you copy files to it from the o/s?

3. What version of Calibre are you using?

That's the cause of your problem. Calibre's MTP library (MTP is the method used to communicate with modern Android devices) doesn't work under Windows XP.
