My friend from Helensburgh has VW with all the bells and whistles. Though, the best one is an external one. Its permanent place is in the garage. It is a piece of string with a big knot at the end. When he or his best 2/3s park the car, they know when to stop. When car's bonnet touches the knot |

I am an absolutely excellent driver. And also very modest ;-)
Seriously. I am not a good driver, but I am aware of the fact, so I always drive with that in mind. So. I have never caused an accident [that would involve or endanger anything else than a bent fender on my car (you asked about driving, NOT about parking, right?)]. In many *many* years that I drive I was only stopped once by a police for breaking rules. I also tend to make drivers behind me angry, because I usually respect speed limits. I also try to drive as economically as possible, so when I see red light, or speed limit sign in distance I shift to neutral and let the car run on momentum. Using brakes is basically converting kinetic energy to waste heat, and with our petrol prices I want to avoid that as much as possible ;-) |

BTW, I can park, even parallel (sometimes), it's removing myself from a parked position that causes all of the trouble! If it is straight parking (as opposed to angle parking), I try to pull into the spot on the other side, so I can pull straight out! In my defense, some people go speeding through parking lots way too fast, one minute it's clear, the next "where did they come from?" Last edited by rebarnmom; 08-29-2010 at 11:12 AM. |

If I get out of the car to teach some dude a lesson does that count against my good driver status?

I heard an anecdote recently. A man went to his friendly neighbourhood panelbeater (body shop/whatever you call them where you live) because he'd given his car yet another ding. He's never caused an injury accident, but has lots of these minor incidents. The panel beater asked "What happened this time?" The customer shrugged and said, "I think I'm just not a very good driver".
The panelbeater said he'd repair the car for free. Because it was the first time in all his years of repairing cars that he'd heard anyone admit to being a worse-than-average driver. The vast majority of people think they're better than average. I'm a careful driver, and a very economical one. I get much lower fuel consumption than the average for our model of car, and things like tyres and brake pads last for far more kms than the norm. I wouldn't claim to be specially skillful when it comes to anything challenging, but I'm adequate. |

I had to check the first option given that I've been driving regularly for some 45 years, mostly in very large metropolitan areas, and so far, have had only two accidents, both very minor ones and a grand total of one ticket for a moving violation (minor speeding).

I'm sorry that we can't see who voted how. I'd like to see who are the people who don't drive! I wonder why.

I am without doubt a better than average driver.
I have the reflexes of a Puma as well, so that helps me to be better than most. |
