Sony Trade-In Program--Exchange Used Electronics for E-reader?

http://recycling.econewonline.com/sonystyle/?q=main

While the $75 ereader trade-in program is over, they now have generous trade-in values for many electronic categories. I was given an estimate of $50 each for a cheap mp3 player, old digital camera, and cheap LED ereader. While laptop trade-ins say they're only good for a new laptop, the other electronics say they're good for an ecoupon at sonystyle.com, but doesn't say if the coupons can be combined for one item. Has anyone tried combining ecoupons or electronics trade-ins to get an ereader? If I could get $150 for three electronics items, that would get me near the $160 student price for a PRS-350.

Sounds like a good deal. I have a generic mp3 player I never use. Just trying to think if there's anything I need from the Sony Style store. I suppose I could always buy blank DVD-Roms But, I would much rather have a gift card to the Reader store to spend on books.

The FAQs state a Sony Style Gift Card will be issued. So, provided they're regular Sony Style Gift Cards, you should be able to combine them (you're allowed to combine up to 20 on a single item according the cs rep I chatted with). But I'm not sure if there's a limit on the number of devices you can send in or not.

Be aware that if you call Sony and ask them to match the $150 price that Borders has for the prs350, they will.

If the electronics are in very good condition, you can often sell them for a good price on eBay, and then you get cash, which you can spend at ANY bookstore . It's a bit more work, perhaps, but cash is good!

Over the last few weeks, in the run-up to the holidays, I was amazed at how much I got for some old mp3 players and an old XM radio set-up. I take really good care of my electronics, so they were all in great shape, but still I was very pleasantly surprised by how much they sold for...

I have some really old electronics that are still in great shape, but are really out of date...I may just do this. I would love to get enough for a 650

Okay, apparently it's one e-coupon per transaction. I would like to know when they expire also. I want to get a 650, but they aren't in stock. I'm hearing anything from 2 weeks to 2 months...I have an old quasar 700x video camera that I would be THRILLED to get $75 for a trade in for the 650....it's so old it takes tapes. selling for up to $30 on Ebay.

An e-coupon can be redeemed online at SonyStyle.com or by calling 1-877-865-7669 and placing your order with a sales representative. Sales Specialists are available Monday through Friday 5 A.M. to 9 P.M. PST, and Saturday through Sunday 7 A.M. to 4 P.M. PST. The e-coupon must be applied at the time of the order. An e-coupon cannot be applied to an order that has already been completed. Please take note of the expiration date provided with your e-Coupon, as a replacement code will not be issued. E-Coupons are one-time-use only and may not be used on multiple orders (unless specifically noted). Only one e-Coupon may be used per order.

I wonder if it would be possible to use one coupon and combine that with gift cards from trading in electronics at a Sony store. The trade-in page said you can get the same prices for in-store credit or gift cards. I think I'll visit a store and see what they can do.

Oh well I guess I'll keep hoarding my old crap, or just send in one old bit of junk.

https://recycling.econewonline.com/

Is the 'power' behind the program and work with Sam's Club, as well as offering debit visas loaded with the value of your item BUT on all the crap that sony offers the 'minimum' if it is fully functional (for my stuff anyway) Sam's Club and econew show $0. Either they'd offer me nothing or virtually nothing as they see fit.

PS: I tried a kindle 3, listing everything perfect, and I was offered $34.

You could probably trade various pieces of junk for a number of less expensive things on the Sony site--headphones, ereader covers (15% off now), computer accessories, or whatever you might need. I was emailed a $30 ecoupon for a $5 mp3 player I sent in, before they even received it. I might send in an old digital camera and use the $50 for their cordless Walkman mp3 player, or a pair of headphones they have with ipod controls.

They sent the coupon that fast? I thought it would take until they received whatever you sent. I put in a Razr phone I bought at Big Lots for $25 and they said I'd get $50. Didn't complete it but I might now. Can you use the coupon at a Sony store or just online?

Somewhere in the process it promises an immediate ecoupon, along with directions on how to send in the device. My email didn't come until a day or so later. I tried using an ecoupon in a Sony store a few months ago, they said you can't use them there, but as with the Sony $75 ereader trade-in last month, you can bring the same electronics to a Sony store and get in-store credit or a gift card--I imagine they'd give out the same trade-in values promised online, but when I visit my Sony store I'm going to print out the minimum trade-in offers to make sure. I tested out an old netbook, and it offered me a $100 immediate credit, plus $30 later in the form of a gift card.

It just sounds like Sony is being generous in an effort to move their products in the slow after-Christmas period, especially since they seem to be lagging in the tech world, without the tablets and phones that people really want, Korean and Chinese companies are passing them on price and quality, and their 'we compete on quality, not price' announcements about their ereaders didn't help (they evidently didn't mean quality of product marketing, reader software, online bookstore, and the Sony website, not to mention their stores--the one in Seattle is sad and empty, and none of the 3 display ereaders on the shelf even had a charge--it was a sad imitation of the packed Apple Store up the road).

Yes, you get the ecoupon within a few days, and can use it right away; I haven't even sent in the trade-ins yet, but bought my daughter a 350 last night with a $50 ecoupon I got for a augen the book I paid $89 for but never used (should have returned). I also got an ecoupon for $50 for an old tracfone I couldn't sell on ebay for $5. I also got $30 for a 2nd gen ipod touch with a broken screen, dead battery. The unit was non-functional when we replaced the battery so I was going to throw it away.

You cannot combine ecoupons, or purchase gift cards with them. I don't know about using them for books on the ebookstore; I'll be researching that next.
