Cell phone books cause drop in book income

Sales of books and magazines in Japan fell for the third consecutive year to JPY 2.08 trillion, the Nikkei writes citing figures from by the Research Institute for Publications. Sales in 2007 fell 3.1 percent year-on-year. Although the number of books sold was actually the same, a larger chunk of books were inexpensive books such as mobile phone novels causing the drop in sales income.

Income may have dropped but what is profit compared to last year?

selling inexspensive books for say 100 where profit is 50 is much better than selling books for 300 where profit is 40 for example.

so yes that would see a loss in income... but not profit.

Agreed. The article was somewhat light on the details and as I don't speak Japanese I couldn't hunt down the original figures.
