Goodbye, Frank Schivo. God welcomes you.

Dear All:

My guiding light throughout my career was a professor I had in Environmental Science at San Jose State University. His name was Frank Schivo and he was very rare.

Frank was reknowned for starting the whole concept of Stewardship of the Earth. Frank never wore his cause on his sleeve, never tried to change you. He only led by example, showed you the right concept to follow, and led a quiet life. Before environmental causes were on so many minds, Frank was there. He helped start Earth Day, boldly embraced solar heating and electricity, and drove an old 1964 Chevy 2 Nova with Propane to the day he died. Frank was a visionary. Before people were talking of wind generation of electricity... Frank had it. Frank generated zero garbage for twenty years. He always recycled and turned produce into mulch and did everything organically.

Every day when I entered his class he would have me write the latest song or environmental news on the chalk board. I will never forget his organic spaghetti feeds after classes. One of the smartest people I ever knew... he lived modestly and happily. I remember Frank teaching "The Tragedy of the Commons" by Garett Harding. Frank, I never forgot that and I never forgot "Should Trees Have Standing... toward rights for inanimate objects".

At 70 years of age, Frank passed away quietly two weeks ago. While I could never live like Frank or fully embrace his way of living... I HAVE helped in a small way to be environmentally conscious... what I see in eBook Readers.

I thought it would be fitting to mention Frank to others. He was a friend forever, my teacher and mentor, and an inspiration. The world suffered his loss. My own eyes tear up over this... yet I know he is happy and lived a full life. Frank, you never asked "WHY"... you only asked "Why Not?".

Thank you, all, so much!

Dear All who responded:

Thank you. I had been trying to find a way to eulogize Frank and the best way was to post. He just deserved so many more accolades. This one man really was everything to me... and I never let him know. He lived in the same City as me... but for 30 years I just never found the time. Now he is gone and it is too late. He knew. I know he knew what he meant to me.

I hate to go overboard on the environmental thing... there are so many reason people buy eBook Readers... but I just try to at least make them aware of the good they are doing.

Thank you very much!

Bob
