It doesn't really matter. All the major eBook stores have a pretty good selection, and the majority of books are published in all the popular eBook formats.
I'm sure you'd be happy with any of the currently-available eBook readers. |

I think the only genre that sticks out as a good one for a particular reader (except technical manuals and such) is the Reader with romance. Harlequin and Sony work very well together. |

Is even that true, LJ? They aren't my "thing" exactly, but I do notice that all the monthly Harlequin releases appear on FictionWise, and from what the FW system owner has said on their mailing list, romance is their biggest seller by a considerable margin!

It's a smart move, because a majority of romance readers read A LOT. That doesn't mean another ebookstore isn't also getting a slice of the pie. |

Well, can you blame us? A lot of the books are short (300-600) pages, and usually pretty easy reads. And there really is just so much to read, you have to read a lot every month so you don't get behind

Anyway, back to the original question: really ALL the eBook sites have LOTS of SF/Fantasy - it is one of the most popular eBook "genres". One site especially worthy of mention is Baen, who publish (almost) exclusively in those areas, and who sell eBooks in open formats at sensible prices.

If you are only interested in scifi, then the EBW1150 from www.ebookwise.com is a great choice. It costs about a third of what the others cost, and there are about 30,000 scifi titles to purchase right there from eBookwise at very good prices. However, the format is becoming obsolete, so look over their titles and decide if you will be satisfied with them before purchasing the reader, because that is one of the few places where you will be able to buy already formatted books for instant downloading. Otherwise, there are additional steps that have to be completed in order to convert books into the proper format.

thanks for all the feedback. I've decided on the Kindle 2.0 and will continue to buy "paper" books as necessary to feed my fantasy habit.
