Official Dec. 4 IQ Firmware Thread

Available here, finally!

If you've installed it, let us know!

1. Download the Zip file.
2. Do not unzip it, just copy onto external SD card.
3. Power off your IQ.
3. Insert SD card into the IQ.
4. Press and hold the “+” volume button on side of device and then press and hold the power button.
5. Wait until you see the unpacking box icon with the green robot guy, then you can release the power and + volume buttons. (Picture attached to this post.)
6. The IQ will unpack and install the new firmware, then it will reboot on its own.
7. Go through the initial setup again. Pick your language, time zone, etc.

Not working so well for me...

I dl'd the update, unzipped it and copied the entire folder over to the root of the SD card. Powered off the IQ, then pressed the volume up button and the power button, released when IQ started, I get a Android guy and a progress bar then a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and it reboots.

Will try downloading again.

I installed the new firmware.
It works great!

The pocketbook reading app works much better than before.
Especially, it handles PDF files very well (faster and smoother) even better than other apps such as beam reader, document-to-go, and office suite pro etc. And the dictionary function is great!

Overal app speed has also got faster than before. This is quite a good start.
Good job, PB. Lastly, please hurry up for the 2.2 upgrade

I recommend not to unzip the file.
First several times, I failed with unzipped folder in the SD card.
Next time, with the zip file in my SD card, I succeeded.
So, I think unzipping is not good here.

Eclair can be 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.1 ....

a bit confusing, I know. I guess we have to assume it is 2.0 for now. If only we had 2.1 ...

Ah... I didn't know that.
The SlideMe app says that it's 2.0... now it's clear...

Correct, don't unzip. And I can confirm registration with Bookland does work! I revised my initial post to include proper updating instructions.

First impressions:
- New file manager - AndExplorer, with no adware
- pdf handling much better
- Seems quite a bit faster in operation? Anyone else seen this?
- Bookland registration works.

Thanks! I've been checking the update page way too often. The new firmware definitely seems zippier.

How did you find it? It's still not listed on any of the PocketBook sites as far as I can find.

The only thing I'm wondering about is the download file has EU in it so I wonder if the US version will be different somehow, if the EU is indeed referencing European firmware and not just a coincidence.

A PB rep posted it, I think (does PB work weekends? Seems that way).

We should make a list of all the bugs that were, and see which were fixed with the release. That way we can also keep track of all the bugs in one thread.

I'm probably going to wait for supposed release date -12/09, of the "Notion Ink Adam" because it looks interesting, but if it turns out to be vaporware I'll probably get the IQ, unless this update fixed enough for me to become implosive and buy it anyway.
