I don't know, it could have something to do with the contract they signed for India. My point is that the whole rationale behind geographic restrictions is that sales in different territories are bound by different agreements.
That certainly seems to be the case here. |

Same international business, different national contracts, different prices.

I'd appreciate it if we kept the New York Times bashing out of these discussions. It's always unfair to paint an entire state or city population with the broad brush of a stereotype. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 10-01-2012 at 11:04 PM. Reason: Fixed past continuous tense. |

Not sure what you mean by all the data crammed into one day. It's literally been shown on the chart for 19 (now 20) days (it didn't just appear on the 25th) and has climed presumably with as sales have increased just like anything would on any kind of bestseller list.

I am surprised to see that the book is not on the NYT "Bestseller" Fiction list.

Spent £12 in the UK on it. Pre-ordered and delivered within twenty minutes of the global launch. Well worth the premium to read it in sync with the reviewers. Good chunky book (I guess - on my Kindle it's as slim as anything) and worth the hype IMHO. Suspect it is very British oriented, as many of the issues it deals with (very well) are our domestic problems, and would be specific to our country.
Spent a good chunk of the weeked reading it - cheaper than going to the movies on a per minute basis. No complaints, and she's sold me her next book. |

...oh, and our version seems to have dodged the formatting issues - which would have annoyed me!!

Her comment this week about how sex has no place in fantasy cracked me up. Someone needs to alert George RR Martin, Jacqueline Carey and many others forthwith.

And this after somebody like Eddings once said, one of the things he disliked with Tolkien was, that his characters seemed to end below their necks...
That lady should better read some fantasy written by people who were or still are magnitudes better than she is. Fantasy-writing tipps by somebody who isn't able to construct a logically coherent magic system for her own setting. BWAHAHAHAHAH Ye gods if authors start listening to HER about how fantasy should be - that would be a reason to start avoiding the genre. |

She might not be the world's best writer, but the world seems to regard her as a damn good story-teller. There are two requirements for creating a good novel. The ability to write well, and the ability to tell a good story. You can make do without one of them. Guess which one? |

Sometimes there's a difference between a best-selling novel and a good one. The main difference is that a good novel also has to be written well.
But even a bestseller has to flow in a way that keeps the reader engaged. The prose doesn't always have to be good, but the narrative connected to the prose has to exert a gravitational pull on the reader that works in tandem with the plot. Last edited by Prestidigitweeze; 10-06-2012 at 07:37 PM. |
