Saving the book info on the Reader
In another thread someone said that you can plug the reader into the USB port to save the data such as your bookmarks, last read page, etc. Now to do this, do you need to also run Connect and if so, once connect is up, what do you do with Connect? How long does the Reader have to be plugged into the USB port? I want to try the patch that allows the reader to be turned off. But I don't want to lose my info about my books. So, what are the steps I have to do to save my info?
Thanks! |

I've opened the listings on the Reader, and then ejected it or shut down ConnSoft -- that seems to have done it in the past.
If you want to be really sure, you can copy your Reader contents over to the PC (that'll bring all your bookmarks with them) and then if the hack wipes them you can xfer them back to the Reader. |

If I remember right from the days when i used to snoop the USB communication in order to reverse engg it, as soon as the connect software discovers the reader it downloads the XML database.

That's the impression I have too, but I, unlike you, don't have anything to actually support it.

I'm fairly sure it's safe. All my bookmarks still seem to be there, and it definitely remembers the current page.
But, if you are really attached to your stuff, better safe than sorry. |
