I only have one thing to say right now. Who voted for The Machine Stops and didn't read it or participate in the discussion. The number of participating members in the discussion is pathetic considering it was one of the higher vote getters.

The fun books get tons of participation, the not so fun ones.... Uh-huh..

It is actually nice to see that the regular book club does still get good participation. Literary, too new to tell. My participation in either has been nil the past 3-4 months and will probably continue that way for a few months more.

I didn't participate in the discussion for Passage to India even though I voted for it. It's mainly because I haven't finished reading it yet.

To make sure I understand the numbers:

Quote:
The Hound of the Baskerv... 17 42 14

It received 17 votes, and there were 42 discussion posts made by 14 users meaning that at least 3 users who voted for the book did not participate in the discussion?

^That would be correct. In the case where (user) > (vote) it is impossible to know if everyone that voted participated in the discussion. I'm too lazy to sift through voting lists for that. I was mainly curious of trends in numbers participating.

All understandable. What you've provided here is great. Thank you!

In the 8 months I've participated - Feb. to Sept. (wow, has it really been that long!?!) I've missed approx. 3 or 4 discussions I think.

Thank you HIMS.

Looking over the numbers for all of 2011 we actually haven't done quite as bad as it seemed we had. There has been a noticeable decline, however, in the last 3 months, especially September:

Quote:
Sep-11 Mystery/Crime The Chinese Maze Murders 21 16 7 33%
Oct-11 Horror The Island of Dr. Moreau 19 39 12 63%
Nov-11 Science Fiction A Canticle for Leibowitz 12 9 6 50%
The rest of the year looked great.

HIMS, would you be willing to add another column to your report?

I'm really interested in seeing "Total Number of Voters"; for instance, December '11 had 79 voters. I'm just curious as to how many people usually vote each month.

Please & Thank You.

Only because it's the holiday season.

Average number of voters:
Regular: 74.19
Literary: 24.60

I didn't factor in the individual selection Lottery months for the literary club, or the initial startup individual selection month for the regular club.

Karma for your troubles! Thank you. Its great to see that so many participate in the vote, it would be nice if we could get even half that many to participate in the discussions as well (myself included! ).
