I'm actually enjoying the Jennifer Estep "Elemental Assassin' series... has a bit of the same flavour as Jim Butcher...

Yeah I think it was too. Most stadiums are in the center of a giant parking lot.

Thanks DuskyRose. The John Levitt and Rob Thurman books look very promising. The first book in the Levitt series is not a Kindle book yet but I'll check back on it from time to time.
Thanks for the suggestions and especially the series order! Last edited by daffy4u; 11-27-2010 at 04:26 PM. |

My recommendations - some I've read, some I haven't yet, but they all look good!
Ilona Andrews: On the Edge - laughed so hard I hurt afterwards. Any book that has the line "Go brush your teeth, brush your hair, put on dry clothes, and get the guns. We’re going to Wal-Mart.” is an absolute winner. I intend to read the rest of her books as I can afford them. Check out the site www dot theoddshots dot com - it is a blog shared between 5 authors - one of which is Ilona Andrews - all of which write urban fantasy. Also on my list from this site is Nalini Singh's Angels Blood. HTH |

I'd recommend C.E. Murphy's Walker Papers, too.
Also, Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series: Quote:

I also like Karen Chance's Cassandra Palmer series. War mages, vampires, clairvoyants, et. al. Kelly McCullough's Ravirn series: Quote:

If you want to switch to Celtic/Native American mythology, then Charles de Lint's "Someplace To Be Flying" and "Forests of the Heart" are very good. |

I second, third or fourth Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim- irreverent, ballsy, lots of fun and action. Also, you might want to try
John Shirley Bleak History Harry Connolly Child of Fire (Fabulous and I think Dresdeny) Alex Bell The Ninth Circle Charlie Huston Already Dead (tough vamp in NYC/Brooklyn) John Steakley Vampires Hal Bodner |

Just checking back in. Thanks again to everyone for giving me suggestions. I'm going trough the Kitty Norville books right now (very fast reads) and will Sandman Slim next.
I'm trying to take advantage of the Cypber Monday 60% off sale at Fictionwise thinkpadx posted about. I was hoping to grab a bunch of your suggestions, unfortunately, the pickin's are slim at Fictionwise. So far, I've only found 7 of the Women of the Otherworld books. Some of you may have better luck so here is the post. Quote:

Just an FYI, but I looked over the Sandman Slim book when it was a freebie at Sony or B&N. What I read was in first person, PRESENT tense. I just can't read that for any length of time, drives me nuts.
