Is anyone taking/has taken their UK Kindle to India?

Hello
I understand that Indians who have taken their US Kindles to India have had good results.
I also understand that the UK Kindle uses a type of Vodafone SIM card in it. Now Indian Vodafone SIM works great in the part of India I go to, but it appears not to work here in East Anglia, UK. The Vodafone signal on the Kindle is often weak, but on one bar it downloads my Indian Express no problem.

Perhaps a stronger signal is needed for voice?

Perhaps my Indian SIM is only chipped to work in India?

I have so many points to wonder on! Anyone who knows about this - kindly write on it and shed some light.
