Cool-Er vs. BeBook Mini

Thought I'd let you guys know that I went to the BookExpo of America and talked to all the ebook reading device people. This is what I found out, with emphasis on the BeBook Mini and the Cool-Er reader and the future of ebook reading devices:

Note: ereader.co does not use .PRC files but uses .PDB files as mentioned in the article.

Also I find that the Cool-Er button layout bears a striking resemblance to the Cybook Gen3. I wonder what the insides are like.

Both the CyBook and the Cooler use Netronix hardware (although slightly different models), hence the outside similarity. The Cooler, however, appears to be using Netronix' "native" firmware (which doesn't have a "stellar" reputation), whereas Bookeen use their own firmware.

Endless Ideas is the company that markets the BeBook (Wiki: BeBook). Generally its hardware and software is from Jinke, which uses the generic brand name Hanlin for its ebook readers (e.g. the Hanlin V3 is also the BeBook and the EZ Reader). The BeBook Mini is a Hanlin V5, but it isn't clear if the BeBook2 is also from Jinke or if it is a BeBook exclusive.

The existing BeBook reads PDF and ePub, but only if they are DRM-free. It does not read eReader ebooks at all. The only DRM format it supports is MobiPocket (MOBI or PRC). These are available from many stores.
