For me it's very true. I learn and retain lots through reading, but very little through listening. It's one reason why I avoid audiobooks like the plague; not only do they take forever, but they require my full concentration or I get completely lost.
I can't imagine listening to one while driving, I'd never make it out of the driveway. |

My daughter is in fourth grade and the only time I see her read an actual book is when it's part of the school homework. There's a ton of kids books just gathering dust.

Kids learn by imitation. So if parents read a lot, there is a big chance kids will too. Don't blame it all on this generation. Parents are those who are in the wrong almost always, not kids.
