Disappointed - but still going to try
Hi,
I've finally had to change my ereader after the charging system on the Sony PRS505 decided to go belly up. A visit to Waterstones yesterday got me the basic Kindle wifi. Quite impressed with it, the keyboard was a pain, but thought it's really only occasional use. It's going back today. After less than 24 hours, I have white/black lines (depending on screen's display) appearing. Tried removing the book I first noticed it on, no luck. Powered on and off, no change. Reset the force refresh option - again nothing. Amazon's support page suggested a reboot - and still nothing. I must say I am disappointed that this has failed me in such a short space of time - but going to try again. Other family members have kindles which have worked long term.... However, would it be worth trying to upgrade to the paperwhite? |

This may start a holy war but it's entirely up to your personal choice.
Some people love the light and touchscreen. Others prefer the buttons. Having used both I /think/ the PW does have useful applications in the occasional scenario that the 4 (read: basic kindle) can not help. Horses for courses. |

One of the nice points of the PW is the use of Palatino (a nice font for my eyes)...

If somebody just handed me two devices and told me to pick the one I liked, the Paperwhite would win, no question. If I had to pay for the one I wanted... it'd be a littlle more difficult decision. Still, the K4 just seemed to get the job done, and done well. The KPW just felt "right". I really can't describe it better than that. It's not perfect, but it's the closest of anything I've used.

Having used just about all of the kindle series at some point for reading, I have to agree with SampleAndy (ohhh, the PAIN!) that the PW is by far the best for me...size, weight, features, screen, etc... everything just 'works' for me. I found it well worth the additional price. Happy reading.

Are you able to post a photograph showing the problem? I've never heard of this happening to a Kindle before, to the best of my recollection.
