PRS-900 Clock Hack?
A friend of mine just got a PRS-900 for her birthday and she's been making mean and threatening noises in my direction, since I was the one who installed the clock hack on her PRS-505 using the PRSCustomizer.
She loves having the clock displayed in the page footer. (I do, too.) Has anyone investigated a similar hack for the 900? Life & limb (mine) may be in danger... she's already getting grumpy. Thanks. |

If you install porkupan's (boroda) russification package for PRS-900 you'll get the clock as well

Curious about the clock hack. EInk uses virtually no current for the display because the page is refreshed only when a new page is displayed.
Is the time a static display, updated at page change, or is it constantly updating? Robert |

You will need to run these links through google translate as they are in russian. The basic goal of these hacks are to remove dutch and replace it with russian as well as add the clock to the lower right corner. English is still supported and defaults to that unless you tell it otherwise.

I don't believe the static display is supported. It's either completely off, update at redraw (page turn, turning on, bringing up menus and so on) and constant update. The latter tends to drain the battery quite fast, so it's definitely not a recommended setting.

The display of the clock can be toggled if you're in the about screen. I have this hack for the 600 and it makes no difference for me in terms of battery.
You have the option of Off/Update (on page turns)/Update (when the minute changes). You don't want the last one as this draws more battery. But the update on page turns is great. You'll also get screenshot capability. |

Here's a quick note to those who've 'Russified' their 900s:
If you run the hack and don't intend to use the Russian features, do you still need to modify the Reader Library software on the PC? Thanks. |

You don't, unless you want to read books containing Cyrillic letters. Reader Library simply has to have the same font as the reader, for splitting book into pages (pre-formatting) to work correctly. In case of letters included in the standard fonts, it works out of the box, no need to change anything in the Reader Library. |

I've not noticed any problems with EPUB (never used embedded fonts). I haven't really used LRF so I'm not sure what problems stem from using different fonts between the library and the reader, but with EPUB I noticed absolutely no anomalies when fonts didn't match.
