A Guide for Listening and Inner-Healing Prayer: Meeting God in the Broken Places ($7.99 Kindle), by Rusty Rustenbach, is free from ChristianBook, courtesy of Christian publisher Navpress.

Book Description
Inner healing is an important part of the Gospel message. You can supernaturally experience healing by exposing the hidden lies that keep you in bondage.

White and stark against the horizon, an iceberg reveals nothing about what is hidden below the waterline, the same way we offer only small glimpses of our heart and spirit to others. But what is concealed beneath the surface of our lives is often a lifetime of woundedness.

In Luke 4:18, Jesus affirmed the promise of Isaiah 61 that the Messiah would be uniquely anointed by God to bring healing to the brokenhearted and set captives free. Discover how to experience this freedom and the emotional healing that awaits you through listening and inner-healing prayer. By exposing the hidden lies that keep you in slavery, you can supernaturally experience God’s healing touch for the emotional wounds of your past.

This God-focused, step-by-step guide also can equip small groups, churches, and others for facilitate a listening and inner-healing prayer ministry to the increasingly wounded people of our generation.

Get the free ebook from ChristianBook. It's a DRM-free EPUB, so you can easily convert for the Kindle (using Calibre).

All of these are pre-orders from HarperCollins, currently free for Australian customers only in the Kindle store. I suspect that these will not be free for anyone else, but those in AU should hop on them before the prices get fixed. The first three are for kids, but the rest are for grown-ups. The first six will be delivered January 1, while the last two should be released February 23, 2012.

The Animal Stars Collection, by Jackie French. Each of the included titles go for $6.99 in the US Kindle store.

Book Description
4 books in 1. These books for children based on historical animals give kids irresistibly exciting and true stories to introduce them to history. The books are:

The Goat who Sailed the World (set on the Endeavour, with James Cook)
The HM Bark Endeavour is sailing to Tahiti to map the transit of Venus, but there are rumours that once the task is completed, Lieutenant James Cook has a set of secret orders - orders that command him to search for the Great South Land. Isaac is twelve and has joined the crew of the Endeavour as a master's servant, good for scrubbing decks and not much else. He's certainly not considered good enough to fetch hay for the Goat who will provide fresh milk for Cook and his officers. And this goat even has more experience at sea than Isaac - she has already sailed around the world once, watching the ocean and lands slip by from her spot on the quarterdeck. Over the months on board the Endeavour, a friendship grows between the Goat and Isaac, one that will last through shipwreck, bushfire and illness. A friendship that helps in the discovery of exotic new lands ... Ages 9 - 13

The Dog who Loved a Queen (about Mary Queen of Scots)
To the world outside her luxurious prison, Mary Queen of Scots is either a shameless beauty who killed her husband, or the rightful queen of England and Scotland, tragically held captive by Elizabeth the First. But to the dog who loved her, Mary is simply his mistress, and the centre of his life. While Mary desperately plots to seize both her freedom and the throne, her dog Folly's world is one of chasing mice behind the tapestries and enjoying turkey legs with quinces for supper. Until the day comes when they try to take his Queen away ... Based on the true story of the dog who was with Mary when she died, The Dog Who Loved a Queen is a fascinating tale of religious bigotry, plots and passion - and the unquestioning loyalty of a small Scottish terrier.

The Camel who Crossed Australia (about the Burke and Wills expedition)
The story of the famous Burke and Wills expedition ... as it has never been told before The humans called him 'Bell Sing', but to the other camels he is known as 'He Who Spits Further Than the Wind'. Transported from the mountains and deserts of the 'Northwest Frontier' (present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan), Bell Sing accompanies explorers Burke and Wills as they try to cross Australia from south to north. Bell Sing has never had a high opinion of humans - or horses. And this expedition is the worst managed caravan he's even been in. Camel handler Dost Mahomet and soldier John King are also beginning to wonder if their leader is competent, or crazy. Bell Sing can smell water over the sandhills on the horizon ... and freedom too. Can the expedition succeed? And who - if anyone - will survive? This is the gritty and true story about one of the most extraordinary and iconic events in Australia's history. Praise for the Animal Stars series: 'an irreverent and informative charmer' Sunday Age 'This exciting story of adventure and survival against the odds with likeable main characters has greater power than text books to spark new interests and extend existing ones' Viewpoint 'What a delight to read this book! ... I think this book could inspire much original history reading by young readers' Book News 'This is history brought to life for the young reader' Reader's Feast Book Guide Ages 9 - 13

The Donkey who Carried the Wounded (set in Gallipoli in WWI, with Simpson)
Most Australians know of Simpson and his donkey, who became heroes at Gallipoli, even among the Turkish forces. Few know where the donkey came from, or what happened to him after World War I. Or that another man carried on rescuing the wounded with the donkey after Simpson died. This is the story of a small unassuming donkey. It's also the story of Gallipoli, of Jack Simpson, and New Zealander stretcher-bearer Richard Henderson, who literally took up the reins after Simpson's death. Exhaustively researched, it gives a new depth to our understanding of this story of Anzac heroism. 'Jackie French is excellent at telling history in an exciting way for children', writes Burke's Backyard.

Dire circumstances have forced Verity Ashton to barter her innocence and change her name for the sake of her family. But Kylemore destroys her plans for a respectable life when he discovers her safe haven. He kidnaps her, sweeping her away to his hunting lodge in Scotland, where he vows to bend her to his will.

Diana Carrick's brazen overtures have thrown the haunted, sinfully handsome lord completely off his guard. Why, the exquisite temptress stated outright that she wishes to be his lover. But it is neither Diana's boldness nor her beauty that intrigues him so—it is the innocence he senses behind her worldly mask.

Intent upon the seduction that will finally free her, Diana has set her sights on the notorious Ashcroft—never dreaming that there is much more to the enigmatic rogue than sin and deviltry. His kiss is bewitching, his caress intoxicating—and even the dangerous secret Diana must protect cannot shield her from Ashcroft's dark allure.

Unwittingly yet most willingly, they are playing with fire. Now the fuse has been lit and there is no escape . . . except surrender.

Tempt the Devil
Any man in London would worship her. Yet Olivia is, quite frankly, bored of them all. Despite her many dalliances, she's never felt true passion, never longed for any lover's touch . . . until Julian, London's most notoriously wanton rake, decided to make her his mistress.

From the moment he first saw her, Julian knew he must possess her. And when he discovers her greatest secret, a scandal that could ruin her reputation and end her career, he knows just the way to use this damaging information to his most delightful advantage. He offers Olivia a deal with the devil: he'll keep her secret . . . if she allows him the chance to show her true ecstasy.

But Olivia must be careful, for Julian has a secret of his own: he will not rest until she is completely, shamelessly his.

The Mak Collection, by Australian crime novelist Tara Moss

Book Description
5 books in 1. Tara Moss's Mak Vanderwall series: stylish, sinister, edge-of-your-seat thrillers.

Split
Makkede Vanderwall is a woman with a past. She is beautiful, street-smart and single, a model paying her way through a degree in forensic psychology. But behind the wit and winning smile is a woman haunted by violent nightmares and plagued by thoughts of Detective Andy Flynn, the ex-lover who saved her from a serial killer in Sydney. Mak has returned to Vancouver, her hometown in Canada, eager to finish her studies, move on from the ordeal, and find some peace of mind. But instead she walks straight into a city gripped by fear, and a campus where the students are fair game. As winter closes in and the days grow shorter, Mak is drawn into a shifting world of unstable minds and untrustworthy men, where motives are unclear and desires are unchecked. Her past cannot be so easily forgotten, and she must face her greatest challenge yet....

Hit
She's street-smart, stunning and hoping to leave her troubled past behind her ... Makedde 'Mak' Vanderwall has her PhD and has started a new life in Australia with her detective boyfriend, Andy Flynn. To scrape together extra cash to start her first forensic psychology practice, Mak begins working part-time for an infamous Sydney PI. With a knack for investigation and bending the law, she might just have stumbled across her true calling -- and the career choice that could finally bust up her relationship once and for all. Then Mak is hired by a mysterious client to investigate the murder of A-list PA Meaghan Wallace. The police believe it's an open and shut case: a junkie street-kid is guilty. But the case turns out to be a lot more complicated as Mak uncovers a dangerous web of cover-ups, killers for hire, the powerful and debauched rich, and Australia's sleazy underbelly. If the boy didn't kill Meaghan, then who set him up? And how far will they go to keep their guilt a secret?

Fetish
Makedde Vanderwall, part-time model and forensic psychology student always attracts the wrong type of man. When she travels to Sydney on assignment and finds her best friend murdered, she soon discovers a deadly puzzle of suspicious photographers, hired thugs, mysterious lovers and the handsome, jaded Detective Andy Flynn investigating the Stiletto Murders -- the most violent serial killings Australia has ever known. In her quest to uncover the truth behind her best friend's murder, Mak falls headlong into a deadly game of cat and mouse, unaware she has become the obsession of a sadistic psychopath. When a photo from her portfolio disappears, her borrowed flat is ransacked and Andy Flynn suddenly goes underground, Mak knows she must run. But where can she go and to whom can she turn? Mak has scratched the seedy underbelly of a foreign city and is driven into a corner, an evil place where, for her own well-being and state of mind, she must suspect everyone and everything....

Covet
Makedde Vanderwall is back -- and trouble's not far behind... Eighteen months after her ordeal at the hands of the sadistic 'Stiletto Murderer', fashion model and forensic psychology student Makedde Vanderwall must confront her demons when she returns to Sydney for the trial. But just as the verdict is handed down, the unthinkable happens - the killer makes a daring escape, aided and abetted by a twisted accomplice whom no-one suspected. Mak is terrified, and her ex-boyfriend, Detective Andy Flynn, who has a bad habit of employing more madness than method in his work, isn't helping. She decides to leave the country, but the Press dogs her every move, hindering her safe passage and unknowingly helping the Stiletto Murderer, who's busy rekindling an old fetish -- her. Where can she run? Whom can she trust? And have she and the police underestimated Australia's most notorious serial killer yet again? Sharper than a Manolo six-inch heel, sexier than a Versace fashion show, and riskier than all seven deadly sins, COVET will set your pulse racing.

Siren
Mak Vanderwall - beautiful, street-wise daughter of a cop, graduate in forensic psychology, and now PI - is hired by a widowed mother to track down her missing nineteen-year-old son. Has he come to harm? Or has he run off with a bizarre troupe of shady French cabaret artistes sweeping through Australia? Has the dark beauty of the burlesque, the magic, the mind-bending contortion, beguiled him? Or has he been seduced by the mysterious and amoral older woman who has a terrifying starring role in the troupe's modern performances of the Grand Guignol 'Theatre of Fear', famous in Paris in the early 1900s? And what of the rumours of violence and tragedy that have plagued the troupe for the past decade? Is their horrifying past fact or fiction? Meanwhile, Mak is increasingly obsessed with the powerful and ruthless Cavanagh family. And it seems their security advisor Mr White, and his hitman, Luther Hand, may not have forgotten about Mak either....

Arabella ($3.49), by Georgette Heyer, is the nook Daily Find ($8.60 Kindle)

Georgette Heyer had a handful of unforgettable heroines, of which Arabella is one of the most engaging.

Daughter of a modest country clergyman, Arabella Tallant is on her way to London when her carriage breaks down outside the hunting lodge of the wealthy Mr. Robert Beaumaris. Her pride stung when she overhears a remark of her host's, Arabella pretends to be an heiress, a pretense that deeply amuses the jaded Beau. To counter her white lie, Beaumaris launches her into high society and thereby subjects her to all kinds of fortune hunters and other embarrassments.

When compassionate Arabella rescues such unfortunate creatures as a mistreated chimney sweep and a mixed-breed mongrel, she foists them upon Beaumaris, who finds he rather enjoys the role of rescuer and is soon given the opportunity to prove his worth in the person of Arabella's impetuous young brother...

You are welcome. They should fulfill the order - the only ones I've seen skipped were books that the publisher pulled from the store completely (no Kindle edition, period) or deferred out for a few decades (usually due to geo restrictions).

p.s. be sure you order the collections, which are $0.00, not the individual books. If you are into the Luke Rhinehart books, the first one is coming out at the same time and is under $9 (unlike in the US).

I was poking around on the Kobo site today and found a section of books that are marked as Just for Kobo Vox. As usual, sorting by price at Kobo simply removes all the free books from a search, but by checking every single page, I've uncovered 10 titles that you can grab for free, including one that actually works on other Kobo readers (and can be downloaded as an EPUB). Most of these are comics and one even comes in several different languages.

Desserts: Sweet Dreams, by Jean Paré

Book Description
A bounty of truffles, fudge, toffee and more await with this fun collection of recipes for sweet treats, all carefully selected from the Company's Coming collection and displayed in beautiful colour photographs.

Essential Europe Promotional Guide, by Lonely Planet

Book Description
Planning a trip to Europe? Know before you go! Download a free copy of Lonely Planet's Europe Essentials and receive helpful tips on packing and planning, etiquette advice, transportation information, themed itineraries, and much more. It's the perfect complement to Lonely Planet's guidebooks and a great starting point to a dream vacation.

TRUE GRIT - MEAN BUSINESS, by Paramount Pictures, actually can be downloaded in 13 different languages.

Book Description
Five U.S. Marshals and a wagon-load of prisoners... A boy appears, with news of a bloody double-murder... Two of the marshals ride out to investigate... TRUE GRIT: MEAN BUSINESS is a free 24-page comic adapted from the novel TRUE GRIT by Charles Portis, now a major motion picture by the Coen Brothers. Inspired by the dime novels that first brought fame to the heroes and villains of the old American west, it is available to view in seven languages using a variety of different comic and ebook viewers.

There's no description for the comics/graphic novels, so I'm just going to list them here - if you have a Vox coming (or think you'll pick one up later), be sure to grab them while they are free.

There are eleven free humor/cartoon calendars in the Kindle store today, all of which can be viewed on any Kindle device. I've pulled one up on both the Kindle 3G and an Android tablet and they are black-and-white pencil drawings, and work equally well on both devices. All are from Andrews McMeel Publishing and the artists include Jonny Hawkins, Ross and Kathy Petras. Grab one or two or grab them all; put a different one on each Kindle or the same one on all you have. In any case, there shouldn't be any excuse not to be enlightened, inspired or cheered up every day of the next year, depending on your selection. If these eleven don't do it for you, though, they also have another fourteen more on sale for 99 cents each (including Dilbert and several other comics) and four at $5.59 (20% off list, which seems standard).

These are the ones that are free:
  1. Dog Cartoon-A-Day - Unleashed canine comedy fetches grins and laughs, keeping dog-lovers howling with delight. Artist Jonny Hawkins takes you on a year-long cartooned walk filled with four-legged frolics and classic canine capers. For folks who welcome sloppy doggy kisses and unfettered happy tail wagging, the Dog Cartoon-A-Day 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar dishes up daily treats. Add them to the hundreds of smiles that canines elicit from their human packs for a fun-filled year.
  2. Cat Cartoon-A-Day - Enjoy a year's worth of delightfully cartooned cat capers by humorist Jonny Hawkins. The Cat Cartoon-A-Day 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar's fur-bulous feline funnies creatively capture the diverse personalities of domesticated housecats--from cute and curious to fickle and finicky. Of course, as any cat-lover knows, regardless of kitty's temperament, the mewing furry bundle will cunningly find the way to the heart of the human who feeds and cares for it.
  3. Fishing Cartoon-A-Day - Humorist Jonny Hawkins skillfully guides you on a yearlong angling adventure as he reels in laughs by depicting the pursuit of that big trophy. Well-stocked with funny fishing foibles and amusing tales of lunkers that got away, the Fishing Cartoon-A-Day 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar nets daily chuckles and grins--even when the next real-life fishing excursion is months away. There's no daily limit on laughs with this calendar!
  4. The Shopaholic's Daily Calendar - Bo Derek once said, Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping. The Shopaholic's Daily Calendar 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar offers lots of ideas, presenting readers with top shopping sites on the Web as well as tips on shopping anywhere from the mall to the flea market, from a designer boutique to eBay. Add in advice from celebrity stylists, quotes and tips from designers, ways to be a smarter shopper, and the latest in shopping technology, and this calendar belongs on every shopaholic's to-buy list. (OK, am I the only one expecting 366 links to Amazon! LOL!)
  5. Believing in Ourselves - Women often look to other women--whether friend, sister, mentor, mother, or role model--to provide inspiration, motivation, comfort, and humor. The Believing in Ourselves 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar gives readers these things and more with a truly special quotation from one of the world's most renowned women, both living and historic, on each page.
  6. An Insult-a-Day - We've been taught it's best to say nothing if we have nothing nice to say, but sometimes being nice is overrated. Then, firing off a one-liner or unleashing a long-winded diatribe is the only course of action--and so much more satisfying. An Insult A Day: Scathing (but funny) Quips and Gibes 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar contains pithy proclamations from politicians, comedians, talk show hosts, and celebrities, as well as the best zingers from movies and television shows. When it's time to really speak your mind, any one of these well-placed barbs will get the point across.
  7. Lawyers: Jokes Quotes and Anecdotes - Practicing law is a tough profession. From pushy clients to overbearing judges to hostile witnesses--lawyers have it rough. Luckily the Lawyers: Jokes Quotes and Anecdotes 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar guarantees to add laughs to their otherwise arduous days. Filled with witty jokes, bizarre laws, entertaining quips, and incredible but true excerpts from actual court records, this daily calendar provides enough humor to keep lawyers, or anyone associated with the law, from taking things too personally.
  8. Nurses: Jokes Quotes and Anecdotes - Nurses truly are everyday heroes! This career is not for the lazy or faint of heart. In what other profession can a twelve-hour day consist of saving a life, cheering a patient's family, moments of hope and understanding, and, of course, humor? The day-to-day chaos that these medical professionals face and tame is highlighted in the Nurses: Jokes Quotes and Anecdotes 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar, which features true nursing tales, profiles on famous nurses, funny jokes, and much more. At the end of a long shift, nurses know that laughter is still the best medicine.
  9. Medical Bloopers - Be amazed by true tales of hospital high jinks, exam-room faux pas, and insurance escapades. Real-life healthcare professionals dispense daily doses of medical bloopers to tickle funny bones and brighten the days of other doctors, nurses, and medical caregivers. With its entertaining patient anecdotes, amusing transcription typos, and comical co-worker blunders, the Medical Bloopers 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar provides a year's worth of chuckles and grins, proving once again that laughter is the best medicine.
  10. Medical Cartoon-A-Day - Take a mental-health break each day with cleverly cartooned medical high jinks as illustrated by humorist Jonny Hawkins. He dispenses a daily dose of healthcare humor to tickle funny bones and brighten the days of medical professionals. For its year's worth of chuckles and grins, the Medical Cartoon-a-Day 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar is exactly what the doctor prescribed, proving once again that laughter is the best medicine.
  11. Teacher Cartoon-A-Day - Start the school day with a smile. Gleeful classroom adventures and amusing student antics greet teachers as they reference these daily depictions of entertaining playground escapades, homework snafus, and comical coursework mishaps. Each day, humorist Jonny Hawkins turns in a cleverly cartooned lesson in schoolroom humor. For its year's worth of chuckles and grins, the Teacher Cartoon-A-Day 2012 Day-to-Day Calendar more than makes the grade.

Where the Shadows Lie ($1.59 Main / £0.99 UK), the first title in the Fire & Ice series by Michael Ridpath, is the Kindle Deal of the Day for those in the UK. For those in the US, this one is $11.99 (and from a different publisher); those in the UK can also pick up the second in the series, 66 Degrees North (Main/UK), which hasn't been released for US readers.

Book Description
Amid Iceland’s wild, volcanic landscape, rumours swirl of an ancient manuscript containing a long-lost saga about a ring of terrible power. The manuscript, which is believed to have inspired Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, exists... but why is it worth killing for?

Untangling murder from myth is Iceland-born, Boston-raised homicide detective Magnus Jonson. Seconded to the Icelandic Police Force for his own protection after he runs afoul of a drug cartel back in Boston, Magnus also has his own reasons for returning to the country of his birth for the first time in nearly two decades – to investigate the unsolved murder of his father.

Binding Iceland’s landscape and history, secrets and superstitions in a strikingly original plot that will span several volumes, Where the Shadows Lie is a thrilling new series from an established master.

If you have an Android phone or tablet, have a Kindle Fire on order or think you might order an Android device in the future, be sure to run over to the Amazon Android Appstore and pick up the free copies of Quickoffice Pro and Quickoffice Pro HD. I also just noticed the Zinio app in the Appstore and recommend picking that up as well, if you have any magazine subscriptions thru their service.
