And finally the case hinge is a cheap flap of thin material that will wear out quickly and doesn't allow the eInk cover to lie flat against the phone when the cover is open. This idea is probably a good one, I like the concept, but this particular prototype is far from desirable.
If the cover has all the hardware it would double the weight. Normal glass isn't that fragile so I don't why it would scratch gorilla glass. The flap may be thin in the prototype but that doesn't mean that it would be the same in the final product.

But the fact remains that "as currently shown" this thing is a POS, IMO. At best it is an early prototype. It is butt ugly, poorly designed, and not very practical.

I don't think I'd call it a POS-at least not as a prototype. Can't tell from the picture but it seems to me it would be best incorporated in a case for the phone. The case could then have 'rests' that prevent the metal frame from touching the phone's glass and it might even have a flap that could protect the phone's screen when the case is folded back to use the eInk screen.

Ugly's in the eyes of the beholder. Poor design can be fixed as I pointed out above. Not very practical? I'm personally with you on that one-but as I mentioned earlier I'm not fond of eInk screens myself. For others it might be eminently practical-just not for me.

IMO it's a prototype to show functionality.

When I look at something like this I don't think that it is the way it will reach the market:

If the functionality is worth it, then other manufacturers will make eink covers for smartphones with different designs.

Not sure if it's mentioned already, but what's the resolution on it?

Yes, the S4's volume controls are easy-going. They're located on the upper left side of the device, where one can use one's thumb to easily press the Volume Up or Volume Down button.

Do you really think that the person who asked this question is going to care about the answer more than two years later?
