flexible touchscreen display

Looks like flexible touchscreen e-ink displays aren't that far off. Now if only the sony PRS700 was using this.

Note: The article is calling it an "active-matrix display" but it is using a Visplex display.

The article says: "FDC estimates consumer applications of the flexible touchscreens are 18 months away." That isn't just around the corner. Other flex display technologies are closer and likely available second half of this year.

Whilst flexible screens are a potential asset, especially with larger sized screens, it'll be interesting to see how sticky finger-prints will be catered for...

In my excitement, I missed the 18 months away...
However, I don't think any of the flex displays coming out this year are touch screens.

Maybe, but PVI has a demonstrable touch screen today and a flex screen in a few months. I have seen the touch screen (resistive wire) and it works well, even supports scribbling. There is only a slight impact on contrast and no impact on the crispness of the characters being displayed. This should be a good year for new eBook Readers.

How easy would it be to damage the surface - at least sufficiently to affect the sensitivity ?

Can't say without a full test. It seems as good as a PDA screen and better in that it is non-reflective like the current e-INK screens. I would say, from my brief look, that it is going to be a winner. I did not use a stylus on it, just my fingers and the back of a pen.
