Ich bin ziemlich begeistert, sehr amüsant, ziemlich spannend, gelungene Übersetzung (nur für die ersten beiden Bände), überraschende Wendungen.

Und was lese ich jetzt? Ist irgendwie immer so schwierig, nach einem guten Buch was brauchbares zu finden.

Schön zu lesen, ich hatte ja gerade im Amazon-Unterforum geschrieben, dass ich mir den ersten Band bei Amazon ausgeliehen habe. Mich sprach da die Leseprobe auch gleich an.

Es ist gerade der Film zum Buch Der Wolkenatlas erschienen. Hat jemand von euch das schon gelesen?

Habe gerade "Dodger" von T. Pratchett durch, ein schönes Buch - kein 100%iger Pratchett aber flüssig zu lesen und recht spannend. Angesiedelt im viktorianischen London mit einigen historischen Figuren als Cameos.
Bin mir nicht sicher ob es ein aktuelles Buch ist (in Anbetracht von T.P.s Gesundheitszustand), aber definitiv nicht einfach nur ein Restbestand der auf den Markt geworfen werden musste.

Gestern habe ich dann mit "Das Labyrinth der träumenden Bücher" von W. Moers angefangen - Teil 2 nach "Die Stadt der..." - nach den ersten hundert Seiten recht vielversprechend, aber Moers hat einen Stil der nicht jeden anspricht.

Ein gezähmter Familien-James-Bond, der nur noch auf dem sicheren Sofa ab und an vor sich hinfaucht..

Da wird der Leichnahm irgendeines Callboys aufgefunden. Die Eltern wenden zum Gespäch gebeten; einfache, nette Menschen. Nun, man weiss nicht was da war, und irgendwie ist es auch egal. Solche Menschen sterben eben öfters. Es ist nicht der erste. Und es wird nicht der letzte sein.

Aber da findet sich die Telefonnummer eines ehemaligen Hollywoodstars in den Notizen des Ermodeten. Den kennen wir gar nicht. Von Hollywoodfilmen verstehen wir nicht so viel, da müssen wir erst mal googeln.. - Nun, wir fahren da eben hin, das gehört mit zum Job. Befragung für die Akten.

Jack Bell, 24. Ehemaliger Jungstar, der dritte Film ein Flop, Raucher. Irgendwie abgewackt, leiblich wie seelisch. Verbirgt sich in seinem Haus vor den Idioten, die sich immer noch als seine ›Fans‹ empfinden.. Er lässt nur irgendwelche Girls an sich heran, jede Woche ein neues, austauschbar und irrelevant.. Die plätschern im Pool, die Sofie, die Marie, die Laura, und wie sie alle heissen.. Man merkt es sich schon gar nicht mehr, es spielt keine Rolle.

»Hallo Herr Bell, kannten sie den Verstorbenen?« - »Nein.« Und damit ist die Sache erledigt, die Akte kann geschlossen werden, nächster Fall.

Aber nach ein paar Tagen ruft dieser komische Hollywood-Depp noch mal an. Er will uns sehen, er muss noch mal mit uns sprechen. Dringend. »Gehört das zum Fall?« - »Nein.« Es sei privat.

Und dann entwickeln sich plötzlich so komische Zusammenhänge und Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen diesen beiden grundverschiedenen Männern. Die fahren raus, mieten sich in ein Motel ein und unterhalten sich die ganze Nacht. Erst fand ich das seltsam.. Aber die Kindergärtnerin von meinem Jüngsten meinte, das sei momentan ein Bestseller in Frankreich, gerade unter jungen Vätern sei das momentan ein Geheimtipp.

Ich bin gespannt wie's weitergeht. Es ist nicht nur ein Krimi, es ist auch irgendwie ein Abenteuerbuch. - Denn dieser Hollywoodstar, der ist echt nervig, der stört irgendwie. Der lässt nicht locker, und man versteht nicht, was der eigentlich will. Erlösung, oder ein anderes Leben.. Oder ist das nur ein simpler Wochenend-Ausflug? Oder hat der doch was mit dem Toten zu tun? Man weiss es nicht.

Ich kenne von Besson dieses Buch, eigentlich weniger das Buch als die Verfilmung von Patrice Chéreau. Harter Stoff, gerade wenn man selbst ähnliche Erlebnisse hatte.

Aber das ist ein anderes Thema, zurück zur leichten Unterhaltung.

Ich habs auf Englisch gelesen. Da fand ich es ziemlich grandios. Keine Ahnung, ob die deutsche Übersetzung was taugt. Mitchell spielt so sehr mit verschiedenen Sprachstilen und -registern rum - also ich möchte sowas nicht übersetzen müssen.

Was ich bisher an Filmvorschau gesehen habe, sieht allerdings nach dem absoluten Horror aus. Die ganze Seelenwanderungsgeschichte wird bei Mitchell sehr dezent in Andeutungen behandelt, während der Film (oder zumndest der Trailer) daraus ein hyperpathetisches Eso-Kitsch-Festival macht. Ich werds mir trotzdem anschauen, aber meine Erwartungen sind sehr gering.

Danke für deinen Kommentar, ich lese leider nur wenig in Englisch, kommt immer auf den Text an, aber so wie du das beschreibst, werde ich wohl eher die deutsche Version wählen.

Das Problem sind immer die großen Namen (Tom Hanks/ Halle Berry) und das Geld was dann investiert wird. Der Film muss dann immer möglichst breitenwirksam und angepasst an den amerikanische Geschmack gedreht werden, was nur den wenigsten Stoffen gut tut.

Schreib doch trotzdem mal, wie er dir gefallen hat.

Na, das hört sich doch gut an.

Ich werde erstmal noch das Buch lesen, aber das schaffe ich nicht mehr in diesem Jahr. Also werde ich dann den Film eher auf DVD sehen.

Ich lese gerade mit viel Vergnügen die Hub-Geschichten von James H. Schmitz in der Gesamtausgabe von Baen. Zwar scheint mir die Protagonistin für ihre 15 Jahre auch bei dem behaupteten Intelligenzgrad Genie ein wenig zu reif und erwachsen für ihr Alter, das mindert den positiven Gesamteindruck aber nicht wirklich, da die Geschichten unterhaltsam und die Charaktere interessant sind. Als angenehm empfinde ich vor allem, mit welcher unaufgesetzten Selbstverständlichkeit hier Schmitz das Bild einer weiblichen Hauptfigur und auch weiblicher Nebencharaktere zeichnet, die stark und unabhängig agieren, ohne dabei von ihrer Weiblichkeit einzubüßen. Dass Schmitz hier ganz nebenbei ein recht komplexes Bild einer sich über hunderte von Systemen erstreckenden Gesellschaft entwirft, ohne sich jemals in übermäßigen Szeneriebeschreibungen oder Info-Dumps zu ergehen, freut den geneigten Leser natürlich ebenso.

Prädikat: empfehlenswert

Ich lese nun gerade ein, zwei Bücher mit eher geringem Unterhaltungswert, aber dies hier habe ich nun noch dazwischengeschoben, um einen netten Ausgleich zu haben:

Pulphead - Vom Ende Amerikas von John Jeremiah Sullivan

Das ist ein wirklich schönes Werk, ich habe schon lange nicht mehr so etwas gelesen. Es ist intelligent, charmant und witzig.

Ich bin erst ganz am Beginn, und Sullivan schildert dort in einer recht eigenwilligen Reportage seine Erlebnisse beim Besuch eines "Christenrock" Megafestivals in den USA. (Also irgendwo auf dem Land dort, mit ein paar hunderttausend netten Leuten.)

Das klingt nun wie das Thema einer der üblichen, launischen Kicher-Reportagen, wie man sie in den letzten 10-20 Jahren recht häuftig lesen durfte.. Es hebt sich davon aber tatsächlich ab, es ist alles sehr plastisch geschildert und sogar spannend. (Zumindest für mich.) Mit einem Neun-Meter-Wohnmobil alleine unter christlichen Feuerwehrmännern, die am Abend noch Würstchen am Lagerfeuer erwärmen und dabei fromme Lieder summen, das ist wirklich ein interessantes Lektüreerlebnis..

Noch ein christliches Würstchen, der Herr..?

Das ist ein sehr angenehmes Werk, und diese ganzen fanatisch-postiven Auszüge aus den Pressereviews, die man auf der Verlagsseite findet, sind durchaus treffend und gerechtfertigt. Ich find's super. Mal endlich etwas unterhaltsames und lustiges, das nicht völlig blöd ist..

"Herrschaft der Drachen Trilogie" von James Maxey, "Bitterholz" durch "Jandra" etwa halb, "Blasphet" wartet noch.
Pokalyptischersciencefantasymix, recht spannend aber nicht aussergewöhnlich, trotzdem ganz nette Unterhaltung

Das ist ein gut gemachtes Buch in dem die Erlebnisse eines 1970 geborenen Deutschtürken recht eindrücklich geschildert werden. Man bekommt einen guten Eindruck von der ganzen Misere, von Verletzungen und Ausgrenzung; aber auch der daraus resultierenden Aggresivität und Absonderung. Der Autor wurde kriminell, ein "Gangster" (er pflegt im Buch die Darstellung eines recht eleganten Selbstbildes, wie in einem gehobenen Kriminalroman), das spielt jedoch in weiten Strecken des Buchs, die sich vor allen Dingen mit Erlebnissen aus der Kindheit und Jugend beschäftigen, keine nennenswerte Rolle.

Das Buch macht einen journalistisch sehr professionell produzierten Eindruck und erinnert mich deshalb ein wenig an das Christiane-F-Buch (1981), das ebenfalls gut geschrieben war und einen Einblick in ansonsten eher verborgene Sozialstrukturen ermöglichte.

Einziger Kritikpunkt: Das Werk ist mir ein wenig zu bemüht auf Effekte ausgelegt ("Ihr werdet Euch noch wundern!" und ähnliche Appelle), diese Dinge finden sich jedoch nur zu Beginn. - Schönes Buch.

Wer "Apollo 13" gesehen hat erinnert sich an den Mann in der weissen Weste (Ed Harris).

Gene Kranz, langjähriger Leiter "Mission Control" der NASA legt mit "Failure is not an Option" seine Memoiren vor, vom ersten 10cm Raketenflug des Mercury Programmes bis Apollo 13.

Faszinierend, wie wenig know how und wie viel Glück - aber auch überragende Teamleistungen - das amerikanische Mondlandeprogramm begleitet haben.

Sprachlich nicht immer eine Offenbarung, hat aber den netten Effekt das man sich fühlt als wäre das Buch so veröffentlicht worden wie Kranz es auch abends am Tresen erzählen würde.
