Randall Garrett (December 16, 1927 - December 31, 1987) was an American science fiction and fantasy author. He was a prolific contributor to Astounding and other science fiction magazines of the 1950s and 1960s. He instructed Robert Silverberg in the techniques of selling large quantities of action-adventure science fiction, and collaborated with him on two novels about Earth bringing civilization to an alien planet.

The sidewalk was as soft as a good bed. Malone lay curled on it, thinking about nothing at all. He was drifting off into a wonderful dream, and he didn't want to interrupt it. There was this girl, a beautiful girl, more wonderful than anything he had ever imagined, with big blue eyes and long blonde hair and a figure that made the average pin-up girl look like a man. Apparently different versions were published in different publications.

They are essentially the same text. "Out Like a Light" was the magazine version, published in John W. Campbell's Astounding SF magazine, to which Garrett was a major contributor. _The Impossibles_ was the title of the book version.

The Impossibles is the third of the "Queen's Own FBI" series, written by Garrett in collaboration with Laurence M. Janifer, and published under the pseudonym "Mark Phillips".

The first two were "Occasion for Disaster" (Astounding SF, published in book form as _Brain Twister_) and "That Sweet Little Old Lady" (Astounding SF, published in book form as _Supermind_)

Crutledge really ought to note this in his messages when he posts the books to avoid confusion.
