Sort of a mixed mode. The books purchased from Amazon are tied to both the user who purchased it (the original owner for the books you are concerned with), and the machine (your Kindle) it was downloaded to. Since you are not the original purchaser of the books, you cannot archive them through Amazon. Since they were downloaded onto the Kindle, you cannot read them on Kindle PC app. You can recopy the books you copied to your PC back to your Kindle 2 and be able to read them -- just don't delete your backup copy.

Regards,
Peake

Kindle books are specific to the machine. So, you can't open them in K4PC. You can download them to your computer, then copy them back to the kindle later, though.

The only tie to the user who purchased them is that they are still on that person's amazon account, so that if they get another kindle, or have K4PC, they can re-download the books to those devices.

thanks very much.

well, then unlike the real books, there is no such thing called second hand market for the amazon books. although selling read ebooks doesn't really give more place to hold more books, it definitely gives more money to buy the next books. I think amazon can open up such a market or platform, with handling charge of course.

Yeah, not gonna happen. The publishers would not allow it.
